It didn't have a very strong taste. The perfect hint of rutabega and parsnips. Everyone who tried it liked it!

I was a little hesistant in mixing all the veggies together. I had never made anything w/rutabaga or parsnips. I boiled each veggie separate... was worried the parsnips and rutabaga had strong flavors. I ended up using just one 8 ounce of cream cheese and it came out great! Combining all three tasted GREAT!!!

I made this tonight for thanksgiving and I'm not impressed. I gave it 3 stars because my husband said it was ok. I didn't like it at all. I followed the recipe and watched Paula make it on TV.
I had to pull out all the chunks of rutabaga because they did not cook at the same rate as the potato and parsnips. They were all equal cube sizes. SO, those went down the disposal. I didn't really care for the flavor of Parsnips in with the mash, although my husband did. I thought it was bland as well even after seasoning it more. I added chives at the end to try and give it more flavor. Not worth the calories for cream cheese and butter as well.
Will not make again and will not eat as leftovers. Down the disposal the leftovers went.

My husband and son have always told me I make the best mashed potatoes in Tennessee. They saw me peeling the parsnip and rutabaga and said "You are gonna ruin those potatoes!!!!" They loved them and it was their idea that I send in this review. My son says....Boy, that Paula Deen is a good cook! I am going to serve them for our Thanksgiving and try them out on 20+ family members!
    Thanks Paula!!!!

I have not been a huge fan of different versions of smashed potatoes but after watching Paula's show I thought I am gonna give it another try.
Turned out perfectly..I had never prepared smashed potatoes with cream cheese before but I will be from now on...
I did add one more item to the dish...a large sweet potato..:- I love sweet potatoes and i thought it would add to it..if nothing else a bit of color...and WOW..turned out very nice...
This is a very big recipe so plan on having alot of leftovers unless of course you are making this for a big family get together.
Thanks Paula you never let me down...

I was looking for a good source of potassium for my diet -- this is definately the right recipe for that with about 1000mg per serving.

Finally got around to doing some semblance of nutritional analysis. Lower-fat cream cheese raises the sodium a little, but not enough to justify not using the real stuff.

Served topped with some shredded carrot is becoming quite popular with my vegetarian friends! Now to test some twice-baked variations...

I never would have believed that this combination of vegetables could have resulted in the tastiest combination I've ever made. I too accidently omitted the onion, but the flavor of the root vegetables was beyond anything I've had before. Paula & the Food Network, I can't thank you enough for helping me to achieve a higher level in my own cooking skills. You've make me look like a hero!

I made this new mashed potatoes, parsnips and rutabaga for this years Thanksgiving along with your cranberry glazed turkey. Well my family has given me more accolades and kudos than I ever expected in my 60 year Life span. The oohs and ahhs could be heard from Stow Ohio to Miami Florida. Paula, I love this recipe and had to thank you personally for also being the favorite chef to watch from myself, my sister and brother-in-law, my brother and sister-in-law and even my nieces and nephews. We are all hooked on your shows, your recipes and your sons' recipes as well.. God Bless you all.

My husband and I love root veggies, so I was anticipating this dish (a recipe my mother-in-law wanted to try for the first time, bringing it to my home for Thanksgiving dinner and it did not disappoint. She mentioned that she had omitted onions by mistake; I think onions would have added something to the dish, but it was still delicious. It was light and creamy with a great texture, and the flavor was very mild, very good with our caramelized onion/turkey gravy. I think that this would be a great introduction to the parsnip/rutabaga/turnip family of veggies. So many people assume that they don't like root vegetables but I am always amazed at how many of those people have never tried them. This recipe is definitely going into my recipe mailbox for my husband and I to eat throughout the year, as well as into my Thanksgiving recipe notebook for future feasts.
