I called Safeway's meat department and simply ordered the wings over the phone... that was easy! Fantastic recipe.

I believe that this recipe is a smart alternative to be used by families too small for a whole bird. I am going to surprise the Mrs. with it today and will post how it turns out later today. As for cooking time; just check the internal temp. I have a thermometer that has a wire running from a magnate hanging on front of the oven straight into the bird. a fantastic $15-$18 investment. and why does one feel the need to hate on a chef here. hate the recipe not the chef lol.

I haven't tried this recipe yet, but am going to Tgiving. I've created many of Tyler's recipes and I, nor my family, have not been disappointed. I won't let my hubby and 2 children down. I'll add my own twist if necessary. As quoted from another reviewer, Tyler is a sophisticated cook [my emphasis added] with exquisite cooking taste.
Okay, now getting to the issue: The cook time states "2 hours" but the addition in the recipe doesn't add up. However, I can certainly see the need to go the length for "unsmoked" turkey, and not at 400degrees. So, my experience tells me the directions with the recipe is correct and the 2hr cook time listed is incorrect.
Any feedback on this would be great!
Graci!!!!

I do not even have to try this receipe to know it is good! I have never made one of Tyler's recipe's that was bad. I am going to make it for Thanksgiving dinner without even trying it first, that is how sure I am. Leslie needs to get over it.

This is a great tasting gravy! I really don't see what the huge issue Leslie from Tampa has about Olive Oil. EVERYONE (except maybe Paula Deen on this network uses Olive Oil in their cooking - and guess what, Leslie? It's healthier for you anyways!
So...I really don't see her point in "bashing" Tyler. I use Olive Oil every day in my cooking...and I'm NOT Italian (since she throws around Alex's name...and I have no problem with the amounts he calls for.
ALTHOUGH...I WILL say that the recipe does call for FIVE tablespoons of Olive Oil, yet only references THREE of those in the actual recipe. So, in that respect...yes, a typo.
Nevertheless, to all those "Leslie's" out there...if you despise the guy so much to write your hateful and not anyone NEAR "insightfully OBJECTIVE" comments regarding the actual recipe ITSELF...they WHY do you cook his foods?

First to comment on the negative comments - if you cook any recipe there are times that you have to adjust the measurements. Wake up!
Gravy was very good. I am fortunate to have a bar b que restaurant across the street from my office. Went to the grocery store, they had just wings in a pkg. and I took them to the restaurant and for very little charge they smoked them for me.
As for you Leslie, you need to stop smoking whatever makes you so negative.

I tested his recipe last Monday night and it came out perfect had a little extra to take work to make my friends jealous.. The gravy wasnt as thick as I wanted it but I added more flour.. I was able to find the smoked turkey wings at Stater Bros. at the butcher counter...but call them 1st because not all of them sells it. Albertson might sell them to. As for Leslie's comment,. take some Midol with your butter..

This gravy is wonderful if you make it properly and according to Tyler's instructions. As a huge Tyler Florence fan I am insulted by Leslie's obvious vendetta against Tyler and I personally think Food Network should remove her hate filled comments as they are inappropriate. Did anyone notice she didn't even actually cook any of the recipes? I thought the "reviews" were to be written by people who had tried them. Doesn't anyone at Food Network reserve the right to not print inappropriate reviews?

For those who are having a hard time finding a smoked turkey wing, you can use turkey bones or carcass cut down to 2-3" pieces and roast it in the oven until browned or buy an unsmoked wing and roast it or smoke it with some herbs. The flavor will only vary slightly.
Now to Leslie. If you are that moronic that you need Tyler to break out a measuring cup to show you how to use oil, you should be reading "Cooking for Dummies" or Rachel Ray because Tyler is a little too sophisticated for your abilities. (Not a slight on Rachel Ray's food, just that it is meant to be easier ;o It's a gravy recipe for pete sake's, how dumb must you be?
Secondly the reason he is using Olive Oil is because it is a healthier alternative than simply using butter. Tyler knows people will go to Paula Dean if they want to include an exorbitant amount of butter. Go back to clogging your arteries like your idol Paula and leave the real cooking to others.
How does a guy luck into sitting on the board of Macy's as a culinary expert?
