Didn't make the top, just the chowder. I used 1 can clams and 1 can corn, a dash of cayenne pepper instead of hot sauce, and dried thyme in place of fresh. Both my husband, who is a fan of clam chowder, and I, who am not, loved this recipe. We'll definitely make it again.

I can't believe how good this was, even with the fat-free half-and-half I got stuck using! Is so flavorful and very satisfying...you don't need the sandwich!

I like to race Rachael, but this was a recipe where taking your time is a good idea. Next time I'll thoroughly sweat the ingredients and simmer longer. The celery was still crunchy, onions needed to melt more, and the thyme was still on the stem. Definitely substitute cubed hash browns (shredded disappeared--frozen is fine. I substituted 1.5 oz of bottled clam juice for chicken broth. Next time I'll use more juice and maybe more clams. Hot sauce is a must.

I usually don't like milk-based soups and prior to this recipe I preferred red clam chowder; however, this recipe is amazing. It's simple, it's comfy/soothing, it's home. Thanks for making me a fan!

I can honestly say that this is one of the easiest recipes that I have used. An added bonus was that my husband loved the homemade soup. It beats the canned style soup any day. Kudos to Rachel Ray!

I made this for breakfast 2 days in a row. I was great and my family loved it. It was good served hot and great served at room temperature.

I had to substitute the clams with crabmeat and corn, but the chowder was still delicious!!

Fantastic recipe that was very easy to make. I am just learning to cook and this was my first soup. It couldn't have been any more simple.

I made the chowder with crab and corn intstead of clams. I also used half ham and half turkey for the toppers since I didn't have enough ham...very good. A small amount of mayo added extra flavor to the toppers as well.

Pretty good recipe - a couple of ideas that worked well for me. 1 Use bottled clam juice instead of chicken stock (hello - this is CLAM chowder not chicken chowder. 2 At my grocery store you can buy cubed hashed browns - works much better than the shredded.
