I decided to "go for broke" on these sandwiches and added ham, tomato AND bacon. The end result was delicious! I used Monterey Jack cheese and put it between each layer of the other ingredients to help hold it together. I did make one sandwich without tomato since my son doesn't like them. He also gave it a high rating.

Delicious in any combination but especially received compliments on ham and swiss combo!

I guess I cheated here, because I used my Foreman grill, and what success! I agree the Gruyere is the way to go. I also used up some good grade bacon too. Imagine that, my can-be-picky-teen, liked the results too.

I am not a sandwich lover but these grilled cheese sandos are the BEST.
My family loves them and we even had them for breakfast on Sunday.
Guyrere is essential and sour dough makes it perfect. Thanks Tyler.
