I only used the dumpling part of this recipe for a different chicken soup recipe, and they were really great. Grated a little nutmeg in the dough, it really adds something.

LOVED IT!!! I doubled the recipe and made it in my crock pot. I also used chicken broth instead of water and added some fresh ground pepper and kosher salt. It turned out wonderful!

YUM! First time I ever attempted this dish. Never liked it as a kid. Used chicken broth and the juice from a can of mixed veggies. Added the veggies 1/2 way thru the cooking time.

I ommitted the salt and water and used chicken stock so it would come out thicker and it turned out great. Just like my Grandmothers.

These dumplings are true old school country cooking.I made them with my home made chicken stock which is a 2 day process.1st day I put the chicken in a stock pot cover w/water add veggies,2 carrots,1 parsnip,1 onion, 2 ribs celery, salt, pepper, simmer 1 hour. strain , garbage bowl the veggies, remove chicken off the bone store in a container till next day.refrigerate stock overnight.next day remove the fat that collected on top of your stock(i leave a sml amount in for flavorreheat stock add diced carrots,onion,celery,2 TLBS chicken boulion granuals , simmer till tender,in the mean time make youe dumplings, and add them to the boiling stock. I also thicken the stock w/cornstarch and water.Add your chicken back to the pot at the end, just to heat it,if you add it back too early it will be dry.

This is a wonderful recipe for dumplings. It is obvious that the cup of flour listed under the chicken is a typo because it is not mentioned with the directions. These are good old fashion dumplings and they are Delish if you fix them right.

I omitted the flour with the chicken, as recommended in other reviews. I had some trouble getting the chicken off of the bones. In the future I'll give it longer to cook to make bone removal easier (my meat was done, but it wasn't quite falling-off-the-bone tender within the cooking time in the recipe. I had some leftovers, which were fabulous the next day. I'll make this again.
