This cake bakes up very nicely and is indeed a very moist cake, but I wasn't thrilled with the overall flavor of the actual cake - the glaze add quite a bit of sweetness, but I think I would have preferred no glaze and a more flavorful cake. The cake stays moist for many days.

Crazy Good! It's very rich and I wanted to serve it as a breakfast cake so I made the following alterations: instead of 2 c. white sugar: 1 c white sugar, 1 c brown sugar, instead of 3 c. flour: 2 c all-purpose flour, 1 c oatmeal, no pecans or coconut, zest of one orange instead. I didn't peel the apples and did a regular chop - there were about 4 1/2 c apples. Proceed as directed. I didn't make the sauce (though it's very yummy! and made a lighter more "breakfasty" sauce from 1 c plain Greek yogurt, 1/4-1/3 c honey, and 1/2 - 1 tsp Chinese 5 Spice powder. Served this on the side. Rave reviews & gobbled down in no time.

I love this cake! The original recipe is fantastic, but there are so many ways to add your own little flair to it as well. Next time I'll be adding golden raisins and may use sliced almonds instead of pecans. The variations are endless! My favorite part is how the caramel sauce after sitting for an hour leaves this delicate little 'crust' on the top of the cake. Sooooo delish!

YUMMY!!! Made this cake late tonight after getting my kiddos to bed & it was worth every minute of my quiet mommy time-- so moist & flavorful! Used a shallow decorative holiday bundt pan & had enough leftover batter to make 2 mini loafs. It was so delicious, my husband & I ate an entire mini loaf while standing in the kitchen in our pj's! Added 1c golden raisins soaked in warmed apple brandy. Then reduced the soaking liquid with sugar to make a thick syrup & brushed the cakes before pouring on the buttermilk glaze. Apple-y deliciousness!!!! Paula, you never disappoint me :D

Definetly on of the BEST apple cakes EVER!!! I got so many great compliments for this cake! I added 1/2 teaspoon (1 teaspoon total of cinnamon and used 1/2 cup fresh squeezed orange juice. Definetly using this recipe when I need a great crowd pleaser!

Amazing recipe. I made this for my Mother_in_laws birthday, Thanksgiving, and my God_daughter's birthday. This will be loved for a long time. Many are asking for copy. Thanks Paula. :-

WOW! This is delicious! I cut the sugar down to 1.5 cups and left the apple pieces a little more chunky which was nice to have chunks to bite into. Absolutely worth making. MMM.

my tube pan was too small, it ran over, it smelled burnt the whole time it was cooking! but this was the best, moistest and most tastful cake i've had in quite sometime.to put it simply, i'm going to get a bigger tube pan, the family has already ask for round two.
