I love Paula Deen's recipes as well as her show. As soon as I saw the program with this, I couldn't wait to make it for Christmas dessert. It's not a difficult recipe, a bit time consuming as there's the cake, drying it out a bit, then the pudding, but no big deal (my cooking time for the cake was a decent amount longer than the 20-25 minutes, and I have a hot oven that i have to watch and I listened to other reviewers and made a bit more pudding for the cake.
I couldn't get over how bland the taste was! Some members of my family disagreed with me, I have to admit. They liked the "subtlety", as they put it. My sister was saying "you have to wait for the flavor to hit your tongue". WHAT?? I don't want to wait for the flavor to hit my tongue with a dessert! I'm only partly kidding. Seriously, I couldn't believe how tasteless this was, to me anyway. Certainly not worth the effort.

Agree with all other ratings.
FYI...have made this recipe repeatedly BUT throughout the year...sometimes without red food color. Flavor and texture remain the same!

SO yummy! Warm bread pudding with melty ice cream makes an amazing gooey, delicious mess! I'll admit that I cheat and use a red velvet cake mix most of the time, but it still turns out awesome!!

This dessert was AMAZING. Seriously it was THE BEST Red Velevet cake I have ever made, and then to do the bread pudding mix, just added a sweeter twist on this already amazing dish.
It was a labor of love, and did take a while to make, but it was SO worth it!

This looks great...but I do have a question. I am not a big "bread pudding" fan, will I still like this?

Paula, what a genius you are!!! This is WONDERFUL! You do have to cook the cake longer, and the pudding, but who cares. Just watch it and you will be fine, I did both about 20-25 mins longer. We had it for Valentine's Day dessert, and I will be making this more and more, plus for Christmas it will be perfect too!
Thanks for the great recipe!!!

This was one of the most delicious desserts I've ever made. My aunt and I made the red velvet cake recipe for the 4th of July and everyone loved it. It's crunch on the top and smooth and creamy in the middle. The only flaw I have about it is when I cut the cake into cubes they were more like misshapen chunks by the time I got them on the sheet tray because they were very soft. Delicious Recipe!
