This was the first Sangria "recipe" I've tried, and I was unimpressed, but I think the sparkling water choice makes a huge difference.

I went with Whole Foods brand sparkling citrus mineral water and it completely watered down the sangria - I would recommend using something with a LOT of fizz, and only using half as much (I prefer more of a wine flavor than a "wine spritzer" flavor. Maybe ginger ale as others have suggested.

Next time around, I will increase the orange and lime juices, and save the sparkling water as an addition in-glass as opposed to in-pitcher. I think this will help a lot. Good base, needs adjustment!

I made this recipe exactly as stated for friends, except I swapped out Canada Dry Ginger Ale for the Sparkling Water. It was delicious and disappeared quickly.

I'm making it again for a BBQ tomorrow and trying a different wine. Honestly, I think any nice bottle of wine will do--red, white or blush. Excellent, excellent, excellent.

This summer I decided to make the best Sangria ever. During the search I came across this one and have adapted it but the basic recipe is Emeril's - thanks!
The Best Sangria Recipe ever! The Best Sangria Recipe ever!

    ¼ cup brandy

    ¼ cup triple sec

    ¼ cup cane sugar

    ½ cup orange juice

Very good sangria, made some changes: I doubled the recipe, used cabernet sauvignon, and grand marnier. I actually only used half as much brandy as suggested because I find brandy to be terrible. I also used about a cup of orange juice instead of the few tablespoons. And I also used citrus flavored sparkling water. Very tasty and refreshing!

Best Sangria ever! Wasn't as cloyingly sweet as most. Made it with Cognac and Grand Marnier. Used San Pellegrino sparkling water. Was so refreshing and didn't get everyone immediately drunk. Guests said it was the best sangria they've ever had.

My husband made this for a party of 50 plus and it was a HUGE hit. It is perfect for the summer. We used a 6 quart pitcher that has a spout in it, so there was a lot. It was so popular he had to make 3 refills for the pitcher. This is our sangria recipe for every party we have. We love it and so does everyone else. We can't keep the pitcher full.

I made this for a Superbowl party and it wasn't too good. It needed more sugar and the sparkling water (I used club soda really watered it down. I would add more sugar and just top off each person's glass with a splash of club soda. Or maybe you could use tonic water instead since it is sweeter? In any event, I don't think I will make it again. There are too many other sangria recipes out there.
