Definitely use Ginger Ale. But oooh watch out! You can guzzle this, and before you know it, wham! Dangerously yummy.

Well, this recipe is excellent, with one adjustment made: only a splash of bubbly water, not 750 ml! I initially added the amount of bubbly water specified in the recipe, but found that it gave the sangria a wine-cooler-like flavor. And the sangria also looked a little cloudy. But with ALOT less bubbly water, it tastes great, like something one would enjoy in a cafe across the street from the Reina Sophia Museum in Madrid. (and then I fell asleep under a statue and never made it to the museum. but don't judge me...

This is a great Sangria recipe, I enjoyed it with my girlfriends over the long weekend. Per some comments I substituted Mineral Water for Ginger Ale, because I don't like things too sweet, But over all fantastic! I also like some of the sangria recipes at www.sangriasecrets.com . And per previous question, yes, you can absolutely use simply syrup in place of granulated sugar.

I doubled this recipe for a party with friends and it was gone within a few hours! I followed the suggestion to just use a bit of the sparkling water, and it turned out perfectly. I'm going to be making it again today and I was wondering, has anybody tried this using simple syrup instead of granulated sugar?

This was absolutely amazing. By far the best Sangria ive ever had.

I used sweet red wine and Pellegrino sparkling water. it was delicious.

Very refreshing! The only thing I would change is using ginger ale instead of the sparkling water. I am excited to share with friends and family!

Made this for a small get together for and early Cinco de Mayo. It was easy to make and just as easy to drink. Yummy! I will make this again. I made it exactly as the recipe called except I substituted club soda for the sparkling water.

Made this tonight to go with tacos, mexican rice and refried beans and it was a hit! Hubby is a huge sangria fan and he loved it. I added the half of lime cut into slices and pomegranate seeds. I will refill the pitcher to re-use the fruit since it isn't lasting long. Used 3/4 of a bottle of club soda just before I served it and loved the flavor. It definitely made it light and fruity. Except for the fruit additions, I wouldn't change the recipe at all. Going to the Keys in Feb. and will definitely be making this to serve after a long day of fishing!
    Thanks Emeril!!!

Served this at a party and two batches was barely enough! I added strawberries to the sangria, and also muddled some additional strawberries and mint in the bottom of each glass before serving. The mint was a great addition. I also used ginger ale instead of the sparkling water because it's what I had on hand and that turned out perfectly.
