This was my first time making beef stew and I wanted to try a recipe that used red wine. I like my potatoes soft and marinated in the broth so I changed the recipe a little. Instead of cooking the beef and veggies together for 50 min and adding the potatoes and cooking for another 45 min- I added the potatoes in right after the beef and veggies came to a boil. I then let it simmer for 2 hours and added the green beans for another 5 minutes at the end. It came out great and I would definitely make this recipe again!

This was a very easy recipe to prepare. Unfortunately I didn't have any fresh rosemary so I subbed about a tablespoon of dried. Other than that, I followed the recipe to a tee. The aromas were mouth-watering!! Every ingredient cooked to perfection and delicious! Will definitely make this again.

I love this recipe, it is so easy to make and you can expierment with it as well. I have added items such as rice, orka and beans. The okra was very interesting and gave it a creole flavor. I highly recommend this recipe for someone who wants to start cooking stews/soups. I have made it so much that I don't even need the recipe anymore. Only word of advice when cooking this don't cook the meat as long as the recipe calls for at first. I have found that if you simmer the stew a lot longer and let the meat cook that way it falls apart with a touch of a spoon. Also I like my stew thicker so I used less beef broth, also if you make your own beef broth it comes out a lot better. Enjoy and Manga Manga!

I made this last night and it was very good. The meat came out perfectly and the sauce thickened up nicely without modifying the amount of flour like the other reviewers suggested. I only used one cup of wine which I thought was perfect - I didn't want the flavor to overpower the dish. Some other modifications I would do next time are to add more seasoning - more garlic maybe. Also, I would probably add the potatoes maybe a half hour before the dish is done - I thought they were a bit too mushy.

This is the first time I'm making beef stew. I substituted canned tomatoes for real ones, and used pearl onions and a bit more seasoning on the beef - paprika , cayenne, some other stuff.
Almost done and its just lovely.
Thanks

This stew was wonderful! I added one more Tbsp. of flour to thicken it up a bit more, as I had read in the other reviews. The beef was tender and the flavor was fabulous! Even my 3 year old son loved it and he's the pickiest eater I know!

This is the first time I've felt compelled to write a review...that's how excellent this dish is! I have made it many times and everyone loves it, children and adults. Mouth-watering aromas will fill your kitchen and company will think you've fussed for hours. Absolutely heavenly!

I liked the flavor of the stew. It turned out more like a soup for me. Next time, less liquid.
