We thought this was a great tasting pea soup. If you go into it expecting the "original split pea soup" ya know with the ham and carrots etc... you will be, to some extent, disappointed because of the differences in texture and flavor.
It calls for 5 cups of chicken broth which, when I first tested the soup I felt like it had a strong chicken broth flavor but as it sat overnight, the chicken broth taste calmed down.
I would reccomend to blend until it is smooth otherwise you will have to chew through mixtures of blended soup/peas/ pea exteriors.
Overall I though this had great flavor, I wanted some heat so I added a little cayanne pepper to my bowl.
And lastly I think we all know that pea soup is not the most attractive soup dish so when serving I added some mozarella and it made it look a little more appetizing.

This was fantastic! I showed the recipe to one of my Indian friends and she said basically this was her dal recipe so she said she would use olive oil rather than butter so I did change that to make it a little healthier but that was my only change. The whole family loved it, including my 5 and 7 year olds. It was so easy to make too! Thanks AB! :

This is such a tasty recipe! Great for cold weather, along with Parmesan Toast.

Phenomenal soup! My only addition was diced ham, but it could have gone without it. Flavorful--simply delicious on cold, rainy night--or any night for that matter!

Delicious! Probably could have cooked longer though. I replaced a little of the stock with coconut milk, used hot chiles and a little sugar to balance out the saltiness. Yummm!!

First time making split pea soup ... this recipe is delicious. I did one small modification and added two small chopped potatoes which made the soup thicker and yummier. Will make it again.

Great recipe. Really nicely flavored. However, even after cooking with extra time, I felt that the peas were not as soft as they should be.

So great! Maybe left it on too high of a heat because it came out more like a puree. Will add water to account for reducing next time. Thinking about putting bacon and ham in there too. mmmmm :

This is delicious! I modified it slightly however. I doubled the recipe, only put a total of 1tbsp butter instead of the 4 needed to double the recipe. I also added 4 slices of thick, applewood bacon chopped up when I added the garlic. This way it never got even close to crispy but was cooked via the hour I simmered it. There are only two of us so I used pint size canning jars and froze the remainders. This way, I can have a serving of soup whenever I choose. This makes it easy to grab and eat as a quick dinner too for my boyfriend who would otherwise opt for mac and cheese with hot dogs or chili from a can.... I freeze pretty much anything I can into single servings so he can eat that instead.

I love this soup, the curry powder is a phenomenal addition, try the bacon!

This is a great recipe. If you don't think you like peas, try this soup and you will change your mind. I have made it numerous times for people and they wrinkle their nose when I tell them what we are having. They try it to be polite and then rave about it and ask for the recipe.
