I had never made my own split pea soup before, but had always thought it was okay, though not great. I made this on a whim over the summer and it completely changed my mind. The curry really makes this soup great. It was also unbelievably easy--I haven't been cooking very long, but I've made this soup three times so far and have never had any problems. I generally make the broth from vegetable boullion cubes and cut back on the kosher salt, and the flavor does not suffer at all.

I just got done making and eating a bowl of this soup. It is really very good. I don't recommend increasing any of the spices as the one tablespoon of curry is quite adequate. I tend to love curry dishes, so I added a little more and it would have been better had I stuck to the recipe. I also ended up using chicken boulion cubes to make the base and by doing that, the soup ended up a little more salty than I prefer. Basically, I think even with my not so desired alterations, the soup was still wonderful. Following the recipe exactly is a great idea. :

And I don't like regular peas. Pea-haters will eat this soup, I am further proof.

I love split pea soup, but could never find a good recipe. I though I would be stuck forever buying $5 cups of pea soup from the local gourmet food market until I found this recipe. It is flavorful, and gives a wink and a nod to curry, which I love because I am Indian. Not to mention that it has no ham in it-which I always thought was too overpowering in split pea soup. I did find it to be a bit thick, so the second time, I added an extra cup of broth. I also saved half of the soup without blending it, and then mixed this non-blended half with the other half for texture. To change things up, I mixed yellow and green split peas.

We use to love to go to Anderson pea soup restaurants in Calif. Since back east have not found one to compare with. HOWEVER- this is by far as good as if not better than Andersons. My husb. does not like curry- so I just told him it had a secret ingredient. He kept wanting more !! And SO easy to make !

One of the top two best pea soup recipes i've ever had, the other being my father's homemade recipe with jalapeno peppers. Easy and very flavorful. Everyone will like this one.

This was by far the best pea soup we've ever had. It was easy to make, extremely flavorful, was a huge hit with my family including the non-pea eaters!!
