I tried this on a whim, since I hate peas generally...well I did until I tried this recipe. It really is a pea soup everyone can enjoy. Everyone should try this soup. Alton rocks!

This recipe is amazing! I am a huge lover of split pea soup and this was one was so easy. I am amazed that so few ingredients can make such a delicious soup. Like other reviewers, I used 6 cups of broth and 1lb of peas. I just upped the curry by 1/2 tsp. It's really a fantastic recipe!

What can I say? This soup was so good that I had to make a double batch the next day to serve with Sunday dinner. Soup is GREAT the way it is, but the third time I made it, I added a ham hock and carrots. Remove the ham, blend it, add the ham and serve. Thanks Food Network for bringing us Alton Brown.

This is a keeper. As a vegetarian, I am always looking for soup recipes with depth and flavor and this one has it all. I did use the celery and carrots in addtion the onion and used Wofgang Pucks vegetable broth. I will add more broth if it needs it tomorrow. It is fine consistency wise the way it is if you are going to eat it the same day.

I have never been a huge fan of split pea soup, but it has always been a favorite of my husband. I have tried many of Alton Brown"s recipes and they are almost always awesome, and so when I saw this recipe and it included curry it intrigued me. First, I have to say the smell of this soup had me salivating. I waited in anticipation to try it, because it smell like a bit of heaven on earth. The taste was not even in the slightest dissappointing. The recipe can stand on its own without any additional ingredients added. I did add som leftover ham, but with or without it it would still be one of the BEST SOUPS I've ever had in my life. It was incledible. I always rate recipes that I try and I very rarely give a recipe a five stars, but this one definately deserved a FIVE PLUS. It is awesome!!!!!

I have always liked pea soup, but I always felt it was missing something. No more. A bit of curry makes all the difference. I made a pound of peas, so I used 8 cups of broth and a bit more curry. Next time I think I will cut back on the curry -- no more than what is called for with the smaller batch recipe listed here. Even so, the flavor is soooo good. I added carrots and celery to the onion and I also took a small amount of crushed red pepper flakes, crunched them up in my palm, then dropped them in. This provided a tiny pop of heat and complemented the curry flavor. I had leftover ham on hand, but I decided to leave it out. I like the flavor just fine without it. Easy to make, good simple flavors and it's healthy and satisfying. I'll be making this again. Thanks, Alton.

I have made this soup many, many times and it is so much better than the "traditional" split pea soup without the curry powder. I do add ham to it as my family feels cheated without it. I tweak it a tiny bit and saute carrots and celery with the onions and add some potatoes if I have them on hand. I also cook this in my slow cooker as opposed to the stove top method and it is just as good (maybe better.
