I used the stick blender just enough to puree some of the beans to give the soup a creamier consistency.

Great Recipe, however I would like to have seen the calories for the recipe. Keep up the good work.

This soup is so good and so easy. Bursting with flavor. I made it for my Brazilian boyfriend who doesn't really like beans and he couldn't get enough. I served it with Guy Fiery's fried plantains, homemade shrimp ceviche and blue corn tortilla chips. AWESOME!

My boyfriend and I made the black bean soup and spicy cornbread muffins and both turned out to be the perfect compliment for each other. The flavors were superb and it left a hint of spice in our mouths, but not anything that anybody would have any issues with...which makes this a meal that we will repeat many times in the future! Thanks for the recipes!

We only had 3 cans of black beans instead of 4. It still worked and was great. We did add one extra can of chicken broth because my partner likes a more 'brothy' soup.

We also did the immersion blender in it and it made a nice texture of finely chopped and not finely chopped beans.

My soup had an unusual/unexpected sweetness to it. I assume it was due to the ketchup, as the sweetness reminded me of BBQ sauce. Has anyone else experienced this?

this is hands down the best black bean soup I have ever made. I have a made a few good ones with different flovors, maybe more Carribean style black bean soup. But this was wonderful!! Tthe only thing I changed was that I added some leeks because I had them. thank you for the wonderful recipe......

Great. Will make for the Super Bowl Party. I also like the bacon cooked crispy. Some in the soup and extra for a garnish. Expect rave reviews.
