I recently made this for a family get-together after seeing it on TV. It was super easy to make and beautiful in a trifle dish. I will say that it is nothing really rich or spectacular, but is very tasty! The dessert fed 8 adults and 3 children and a few of us even had seconds. I will definitely make it again.

I love Paula's shows and this dessert was a hit when I took it to a July 4th picnic. Everyone really enjoyed it and of course I told them it was a Paula Deen recipe. The only thing that I did not like was that as it sits the cake tends to break down and you get a grainy feeling in your mouth. Will make it again.

We love making at least one of Paula's great recipes per day and tape ALL of her shows! I made this for the 4th of July and although it was beautiful and surprisingly light, folks didn't rave as they usually do. I sent it to my grandson's school and tried again with a few alterations. I added 1/4 cup of sugar and 1/4 tsp. almond extract to the cake mix so it would taste more homemade. I used 4 tbsp. of sugar instead of 2 tbsp. and 1/4 tsp. vanilla in the whipped cream. (Be careful not to over beat so it will glide in the trifle! I also crushed a Butterfinger and used 1/4 cup of light brown sugar to split & sprinkle on the two layers. I topped it with some Maraschino cherries and this time everyone loved it! It would be fun to use sweetened shredded coconut on the two layers as well!

This dessert is really easy to make but looks as though is it difficult. More importantly, it is delicious!
