I don't know if this is cuban style, but I thought it was a great basic recipe. I followed the directions as written, but I added a half packet of Sazon', which added a great addition

This is NOT a 30 minute meal! This is an insult to cuban cooking.

I just made this dish for my wife and my Cuban mother. I will say that they both loved it. The flavors were authentic. I would give this recipe a 5 but the seasoning for the steak was a bit too salty. The only way to get around that would be to make your own seasoning. The shrimp was great. As was the rice and plantains. Will definitely make this dish again

I made this for my family and neighbors they all absolutely loved it. I loved the quick and simpleness of it, as well. I was able to get done before the baby started screaming and still have tons of flavor. It also tastes good with some fresh fruit makes you really feel like your in Miami.

Have not had a chance to make this yet, but I eat plantains everyday & she did not use green plantains for this-they were ripe, which would give you a mild sweet potato taste. Green ones would give you a regular potato taste & you do need to boil green ones first.

I found this dish to be very good and easy to prepare. I personally made a rub out of all the seasoning for the steak and let it marinate while I was prepearing everythig else. I did not do the plantains... instead just the shrimp on the side with the steak, rice and beans.

In theory the plantain approach would work if they were boiled instead of micro-waved. Coming from the caribbean I know that plantains are fried, if they're ripe and yellow, and boiled if they're green. I would never microwave a green plantain. I tried the steak and rice and those were tasty.

I've been making this recipe for years and its always a hit ! the only thing i do different is half mashed yukon gold potatoes half mashed plantains since my husband doesn't like too much plantains. its delicious and worth trying

I followed the recipe exactly for the mashed plantains -- using green ones as directed -- and they turned out just awful. Too hard, unappetizing...they must have used plantains that were very ripe for this to work. I had to throw them away; it was a disappointment. The rice-n-beans were the highlight of the meal for my family...simple, but nicely seasoned.

I was very excited to make this for my family but I must say that we were all disappointed. The shrimp did not taste very good , not much flavour and just plain boring. The beans and rice was ok but not what we expected cuban beans and rice to be . It sort of reminded me of a caribbean red peas and rice. The plantains turned out good but there was nothing hard to do about that. I dont think I will be making this again. Sorry not worth the effort and time.
