Fudgy mix makes the better brownie in my opinion. Adding chile and chocolate to the mix does give it a "Mexican" flair....Classic Mexican Mole sauce is famous for it's use of chocolate and chili together! The culinary world has used the same combo of chocolate and chili in cupcakes, ice cream, and even cocktails!!! Love it!

Think you're in the minority about being offended. As someone who works full-time outside the home with 2 schoolage children, I just don't have the time to make everything from scratch, so how would using a shortcut hurt? Sorry, we can't all be perfect like you. Maybe some of us would like to use the extra time we save by using a box mix and spend it with our families and friends.

I am not offended! Sandra Lee uses shortcuts all the time, hence semi homemade. So if you feel better making your brownies from scratch then do so but don't chastise those who want to put together a quick dessert.

I prepared this exactly the way the recipe says, and it came out great! The only thing I did different was bake the brownies in an 8 X 8" pan instead of the one the recipe calls for. I like thicker brownies. I used Breyers Dulce de Leche ice cream and sprinkled it with a dash of cinnamon. The ice cream was the perfect complement to the brownie (which I heated up in the microwave just before topping it with the ice cream and serving. In fact, the dessert was the perfect complement to the meal I made: Spicy chili with corn bread and sangria! I think next time I will serve this with a little Reddi whip as well!

They taste better made with fudge brownie mix than a dark chocolate mix (I tried both. Also use the variation for cake like brownies. In Seattle, I once had similar brownies served with vanilla bean ice cream and caramelized pineapple. Can't wait to try it with this recipe. Yum!!

After reading other comments I only added just under 1/2t chipotle powder (the jalepeno sounded good too but didn't have any on hand. This worked for us. Just a little kick and a great combination with the chocolate! We could probably add a little more chipotle (maybe just over 1/2t next time.

these brownies sounded like they would be good and i followed precise measurements for the chipotle powder and cinnamon and my throat felt like it was burning after one bite. My husband agreed, and he loves brownies and spicy food, that these were a bust. I even bought the dulce de leche cinnamon hagan daaz ice cream, but that was the only good part about this desert.
