I made and fried the fritters as directed but I used prepared lemon curd. We did prepare the batter before dinner to let it set. The lemon juice keeps the apples from browning. Go easy with the lemon curd as it can be overpowering. We didn't care for the crystallized ginger but that's just personal preference and am glad we tried it. The fritters are not sweet. I'll add more sugar to the batter next time. I'll also skip the dates. They added nothing and aren't worth the time/money/trouble. After blotting/draining the oil off we added powdered sugar! Tasty! I agree with other reviewers about trying with some other fruits and getting on the treadmill!

Made this with my youngest who asked' "Whatcha making?" My reply "Fritters," him 'What are fritters?" "Fried donuts'" I said. He then asked "What are fried donuts..." "Fritters, honey" and on and so forth . Well needless to say everyone loved them I used every bit of the recipe as intended and it was good. I went easy on the drizzling and the sharp taste of the ginger went well with the sweetness of the glaze. I could see all kinds of toppings for this... whipped cream, powdered sugar, honey, strawberries (imagine a denser funnel cake with fruit - something for everyone. Okay now I am off to the treadmill.

I am going down the list and making all the URS recipes and I must say this is comfort food at its best! It has a light taste like a homemade doughnut. I did use lemon curd; store bought ; actually I bought some from my local bakery, but I found myself eating them as I was waiting for the next batch to come out of the fryer. This was so easy my grandchildern helped, they mixed and I fried. A tasty dish that created a wonderful kitchen memory for my grandkids and myself! I always say that real memories are made in the kitchen and this was a really nice one that will last forever. The kids had batter all over them, we laughed for an hour as we ate and then cleaned up. . It was good times. I have placed this recipe in my must make often box. Thank you so much. I did watch your show a few times you did a good job on the show also. I would highly recommend this easy , fun and great tasting recipe to all.

We made this for dessert. It was super easy. We didn't use dates and candied ginger. Like the judges recommended, we smothered them in powdered sugar. The lemon curd sauce was made without measuring but tried for equal parts and I used a bit of powdered sugar instead. Next time I think I'll just use the lemon curd and cream without sugar. I also used shortening to fry. It was the yummiest apple fritter! It really did taste like the lemon fruit loops.
