I am surprise that so many people complaint that need more sugar.
Is just perfect, not too much sugar not too much grease.
I soak the raisins with brandy and double the nuts.
A tablespoon of black-strap some times and whole wheat.
Cake with not guilt!

I had to go back and check the reciepe after baking it. I had to have left out sugar......nope copied it down correctly. Went trough reviews and found someone else who also thought it needed a cup of sugar added. You can taste the spices it has potential.will bake again tomarrow with added sugar. Other person said the bread was great with added cup of sugar.

I tried making this for a brunch work meeting, and everyone loved it! I did add extra sugar because I like things sweet. Everyone wanted more, so I made a few more loaves for the next meeting. This time, I added chopped apples to one, and kept the raisins with the other. I liked this bread a lot, and so did everyone at the meeting! I think it's not that this recipe needs added things, I think it just takes them very well. It's easy to tweak.

I usually have great success with Paula's recipes. I had some leftover applesauce and this sounded perfect. It was dry and virtually tasteless.
I think some sour cream and more seasonings might help, but I'm not going to the bother.

This is one of the most delicious breads I've ever had. My teenaged daughter saw Paula make this and tried it herself. I brought it to work and it disappeared in minutes. Everyone wanted the recipe. My daughter makes this often and we love it! Don't overcook it though, or it will be dry. Does anyone remember Thomas' Date Nut Loaf? Well, this is the closest thing I've every tasted to it. It's delicious!

It was really really easy to make and tastes yummy. It's nice to have another brekfast type bread other than bananna or raisin bread.

When I saw Paula make this today I was really excited, but being an experienced baker when I took a look at the recipe I knew 1/4 cup of brown sugar was not enough sweetener! So I used 1 cup of granulated sugar along with the 1/4 cup brown sugar. I also used sweetened applesauce with cinnamon. Instead of butter I used butter flavor Crisco and left out the raisins. Doing all of this and it turned out perfect! This will be great on Christmas morning with coffee.

Just watched the show a few minutes ago. When she said Applesauce Bread my ears perked up and I thought what a great treat and a great gift to give. When I watched her make it however I knew the Apple Butter could be a bit of a mistake and in Paula's words it gives a "hint" of flavor. Most of us need more than a hint in our foods. Also, when she tasted it - her facial expressions said it all. She didn't enjoy it very much. I liked the idea of the taste being a cross between oatmeal cookies and carrot cake however. After reading all the reviews I will make it and take into consideration what others did to make it better. Happy Cooking Ya'll!

This recipe was really easy to make but I wasn't impressed with the taste. It was rather bland and didn't have the apple taste I was expecting. My husband loved it though, so maybe it was just me!
