The recipe at the end is for a quantity of her House Seasoning. The recipe itself calls for 1 1/2 teaspoons, NOT the whole recipe !
Add andouille and Emeril's BAM and you have a great dish !

I also switched out the okra with spinach and I didn't have thyme - so I mixed sea salt, pepper, and lemon pepper and that was JUST the best combo to make this spicy and delicious. I have pictures!

I followed the directions, but the okra was mushy and disgusting, and the gumbo flavor was weak. Also the consistency was not really that of a gumbo. I removed the okra and replaced with fresh spinach, added some heavy cream, more thyme and basil, a bit more broth and turned it into a stew which saved it. I skipped the cornbread topping and served with actual cornbread. Would not make this again.

My husband and I LOVED this! I did make a few changes though, I used Emeril's Bayou Blast instead of the house seasoning and lemon pepper seasoning. I also added half of a red and half of a green bell pepper diced fine. I also left out the corn muffin mix due to my husband not liking cornbread. At the end I just added the shrimp and kept in on the stove in the cast iron skillet and served it over white rice. Awesome recipe we will def. be making this again soon!

I made this tonight for dinner, and it was a huge hit (it sounds crazy, but the more we ate this, the better it tasted, and the more we wanted!. I read all the reviews, and per many people's comments, I added three sliced andouille sausages and a can of Rotel tomatoes to the recipe, to up the spice and "meatiness" factor. While it certainly wasn't gumbo, I actually preferred it (I guess I must not love the taste of file powder. I give this two big thumbs-up and will definitely be making it again. Thank you, Paula!

My husband and I both liked this very much. He always looks at a new dish with a raised eyebrow and I always tell him it's Carol's Surprise!. It was simple and had excellent flavor. I read some of the other reviews - I think the one with the 1 c. of house seasoning didn't read very well and I didn't find my okra mushy at all (I was afraid it might be since it was frozen. The corn bread mix had a very good flavor with a sweetness to it. I maybe would like it just a "tetch" thicker.

Okra was mushy, topping was dry and too dense. Might be ok, but not in this house.

I really love Paula Deen's show to begin with, add that to my love for shrimp, Lobster, scallop's, crabmeat, crablegs, and crab cakes, and Paula Deen's reciept's, and her being a good ole southern belle, well, how can thing's go wrong. Once again Paula's expertise and love for cookin', has triumphed again. Love Ya all
