Truly a great old Southern recipe

Rated: 5 stars out of 5
This is an old Southern coastal states recipe, so if you are not from the South, you won't understand the old Thanksgiving tradition of this cornbread and oyster dressing recipe that everyone loves in this area. Thank you, Paula, for publishing this recipe. I can't wait for Thanksgiving and all the great Southern food ! A friend who has an aunt in her early 90's still makes this every Thanksgiving for her family. They all look forward to her oyster dressing on holidays.

    A huge hit

Rated: 5 stars out of 5
I made this last night as a trial run before Thanksgiving, and it was huge hit! I did forgo making the corenbread home made and used 2 packages of jiffy corenbread mix made according to package directions, and then I added in the chicken broth a little at a time until the consistency looked right, so I would say I used about 2.5 cups of broth. This will be re-appearing for Thanksgiving this year

    Not too good

Rated: 3 stars out of 5
Normally, I LOVE dressing but didn't like this one at all. I cooked the recipe while watching the recording of her cooking it on Food Network and had the recipe off this site. I didn't like the taste at all and thought it looked ugly-almost a greenish tint.

Don't Use the 7 Cups of Stock In the Recipe!

Rated: 2 stars out of 5
On the show, Paula is shown using only about 2 cups of stock. This should produce better results than the one I got after using the 7 cups of stock called for in the printed recipe. WHAT AT SLOPPY, EMBARRASSING MESS! I will give it another try but next time I'll just use two cups instead of 7. I give this recipe a Poor rating because of the obvious typo online.

    This Rocked

Rated: 5 stars out of 5
First off, I saw the show on which she prepared this dish and she used 2 cups of stock. I was trying to get ideas on what I was taking to the family for Thanksgiving. Second, I never follow recipes exactly, I gotta change them. So I sauted the celery and onions with a little juice from "Embassa chipotle peppers" can, I didn't use the whole can. You can buy this anywhere in Cali, but you might need to go to a Mexican market in other places. This gave it some much needed heat. When mixing all the ingredients together, I added cran raisons, and this just made the dish perfect. I got rave reviews on this, give it a try.

This was The Best Stuffing ever.... I made it last year for Thanksgiving just to try something different... but most of My Family doesn't eat Oysters so I used a Spicy Breakfast Sausage instead & it was Awesome Big hit!!!! WHEW! (& on My 1st time ever getting to make the Stuffing) ;) My Mom kept My recipe so I've been on here searching for an hour now & YAY I found it again!!! I'm going to make it again this Turkey Day & Highly recommend it!

Just what I was looking for

Rated: 4 stars out of 5
This is a recipe that I had been looking for for awhile. It had good flavor, although I used premade stuffing mix (herb and cornbread)to make it easier. I added more spices (Emeril's BAM), and I am glad I did. It had just enough kick. It would have been too bland without it. I used fresh local oysters, which I am sure made a difference, too.

I always make cornbread dressing, but the oysters was a delicious addition. I couldn't find fresh oysters so I used smoked instead. It had a wonderful flavor everyone really enjoyed it.Paula really has the best recipes.

My husband comes from a "mixed family", (northern mamma, southern daddy,) and he insists that I make this for him EVERY year........which I do....complain about the stench of the oysters, but I make it none the less.....he loves it, so that is all that matters to me!

I used this recipe last year and thank goodness it's still available so I can print another. I'm a serious cook and foodie, but cooking southern favorites is very new to me. I had my dinner with to the bone southerners and my contribution was this. Huge hit and I must admit, I loved it too. I replaced chicken stock w/turkey stock I made and used only about 2cups. The rest of my stock came in handy for injecting the bird and for gravy. This was truly delicious & very simple. I made the cornbread a couple days prior and let it dry out and made the dressing the day before. Really yummy!! Highly recommend :)

    Different, Yummy, GOOOOOD!!!

Rated: 4 stars out of 5
I honestly had never had Oyster Dressing before I found this recipe...but it looked so good when Paula made it, & since I am always open to new things, I HAD to try it!!! I was not disappointed!!! I DID up the "spice factor"...as our family loves a lot of spice...and I baked it in muffin tins, as I do all my stuffing/dressing because we all fight over the "crispies...lol! I am thinking this would be really good as a stuffing to use in seafood too (stuffed shrimp, haddock, flounder, etc...)...gonna try that next week. Kudos, Paula!!!

It came out a bit soggy I thought. However, it is so much better than the typical stuffing.

    Who holds the spoon?

Rated: 4 stars out of 5
I am planning on making this dish for Xmas although after reading the bad reviews about it I kind of hestitated for a bit. I then decided to concentrate on all the many wonderful reviews Paula got for this recipe, because it all boils down to how experienced the one that holds the spoon is.Maybe these negative people can't cook. Keep on cooking Paul!!

    Oyster Dressing

Rated: 4 stars out of 5
I just moved to Apalachicola, and we have the best oysters around. I knew I could count on PD for a yummy southern oyster dressing recipe. I read the reviews and ended up only using 2 cups chicken stock. I also used a different corn bread recipe, but the dressing turned out so good!

    Best Stuffing Yet

Rated: 5 stars out of 5
This is the best stuffing/dressing I have ever had. I never thought I would like stuffing out of the turkey or would even eat anybody else's stuffing other than my mother's. Then I made this. We couldn't stop eating it!
