I would love to see the directions to this recipe???? My mother is Italian and I grew -up eating turdelli ( a different recipe from this one but I would love to try this recipe to compare the difference. If someone can help with the directions that would be great.....Thanks

For Lizagirl. What you're looking for are called "Scalille". Just google them and you'll find several recipes and pictures - just like Nanna used to make who was also from Cosenza.

Im hoping to get a quick response to this, ive been looking for a recipe and cannot for life of me find it and my Nona is passed now so i cant call her for it (though id give anything to be able to
it a recipe that we called dog bones (not sure of Italian name it is similar to the Turdelli however shaped like a bone, and has no booze in it... it is also coated in honey.. can anyone help a sister out??

Like others on this site, I grew up cherishing these cookies and we also had a "close", but not quite the same name for them. (Maybe because I only ever heard the name spoken in broken english and never saw it written. Anyway, my grandmother was right from Italy and an awesome cook but she guarded all her recipes like they were international trade secrets! And so then unfortunately, they also went with her to the grave and the rest of us are cursed with only the memory of some great food. The children and grandchildren have tried to recreate these over the years -- everyone thought knew a little piece of the puzzle -- but they never came out right. Now, thanks to you Michael, a small piece of my childhood is BACK with a vengence. I made these right away and they were easy to make and gone in 24 hours. My family devoured them. This one is a true keeper!

Brings me back to childhood!
Our family used to conduct a "Turdilli Bouncing" contest to determine who made the best Turdillis that year.
There still is annual Turdilli Making Day at Aunt Dolores house held every year on Thanksgiving weekend.

I think if you grew up having these, then you'll love this recipe. I enjoyed them, but I seemed to be the only one who did. Prob wont make again, because they killed my diet.

OMG!! I am still in chock after watching the show. My aunt used make this when I was a child and they were my favorite. See, I was born and raised in Brazil and could not remember the name of the cookies. I will certainly prepare this for Christmas and then I comment on the recipe. I just know it will be delicious, just like going home! Thanks Chef Michael!
