These are the worst gingerbread cookies I've ever had. They are dry and have no flavor whatsoever.

I don't usually care for gingerbread cookies, just don't like the flavor. I tried this recipe and had my students decorate them (wasn't planning on eating them, but they were moist, buttery, and delicious. The ratio of flour worked perfectly fine, didn't change a thing. Those who rated this recipe poorly, I'm guessing that something went wrong or you made a mistake because this recipe is fab!

For anyone that has made these, would you say that they are really hard to bite into and "break teeth"? I'm considering to make them for a cookie swap but I don't want any one to chip teeth! Tell me what they're like!

I'm thinking you girls who said the dough was too dry forgot to sift your flour.

just made these today, and after reading the comments decided to use exactly 1 cup flour less - it made for a dough that was pretty sticky, and so i may have put that last cup of flour right back into the cookies anyway since i needed so much of it just to roll them out and get them off the granite. also, i added a bit more of the spices, about 1/4tsp more for each, and added a little less than a 1/2tsp of ground cloves. they were crisp and amazing, actually, and i don't even like gingerbread cookies.

This was my first time making gingerbread cookies and I have to say that it produced a tough dough to work with; very, very dry. I wish I had read the reviews, because the cookies are pretty bland tasting, and cracked. Boo, I expected more from Ms. Dean.

A pretty good Gingerbread recipe. The flour ratio on this one is just fine. Make sure to not pack your measuring cup, sify flour when measuring. The flavor is mild on this one, i jazzed mine up by adding more ginger, cinnamon, and nutmeg. the Royal Icing was good, it set after about 10 mins, was not too runny as previous posts. These were nice and moist when rolled 1/8 in like recipe says, bake exactly 10 mins. Mine came out just fine. We made cookies and decorated our Christmas tree, It made for a wonderful night.

I read the reviews here and followed the universal advice: take out a cup of flower. The cookies came out so moist, full of flavor, and they are perfect! If you want great flavor and tenderness, take out a cup of flour from the recipe. I also added more ginger and they came out just fine. I will definitely use this recipe again.

The frosting is a little plain, over sweetened, and cheap tasting- but at least it's homemade. I added vanilla and nutmeg to the frosting and it helped a little, but the powdered sugar is a little too overpowering.
