I trusted the previous rater that said Giada used smoked Gouda and now I'm a smoked Gouda fan! It's really different and it really makes this dish something special. My husband and I loved it. Easy enough for a weeknight meal and good enough for company. Thanks again Giada.

The ingredients are a bit pricey, almost 20 dollars in cheese alone. I have a greaaaaaaaat marinara, which I never go wrong with. I usually know the dish is a hit when the left overs are gone, this one took a while.
In my opinion the smoked mozarella was a bit overpowering. Slightly, but if I was to do it again I would leave it out.
I give it a 3.50

I made this dish for sunday dinner for my Italian family. I was a little nervous because my Italian grandmother is usually the main cook and she uses friendly criticism when it comes to cooking, because her way is the right way and thats that. lol I used our own homemade tomato sauce, I didn't add the herbs because, our sauce has enough flavor. This was delicious my whole family loved it! Even my grandmother. I also shredded the smoked mozzarella, instead of simply cutting it in slices and laying it on top. I thought this would make a better spread out cheesy crust, and it did. Yummy!! Thanks Giada!

Great dish and super easy to make. I noticed the post below that the recipe was posted wrong and should actually have smoked gouda instead of the smoked mozzarella. Definitely much better with the smoke gouda.

My husband and I loved this. Even the leftovers were great. I used regular mozzarella because we aren't big fans of the smoked and it still turned out wonderfully.

I couldn't find smoked mozzarella anywhere so that might have been why it tasted so bland to me. I definitely needed salt/pepper. I added more parsley than it called for and also put cooked Italian sausage in it to make it a more complete meal. I will make it again, I just think it needs to be "tweeked" a bit

I added fresh spinach and mushrooms to the dish and it came out great. It was a such a hit with my boyfriend that he got up for a third helping. Had plenty of leftovers.

Yummy, quick, and easy. If you're on a budget like I am, regular sliced mozzarella works well also.

I cut back on the thyme leaves to 1 tsp. and used half smoke Gouda and half regular mozzerlla. I thought after reading other comments that the smoky taste would take over and I was right.
I forgot to cover and it was a bit dry, next time I'll read the directions properly. I will make this again, it was very good.
