This is my favorite "go-to" recipe for a dinner party. It is absolutely amazing! If you dont have sherry on hand, you can buy "sherry cooking wine" at the grocery store and just use that. I would recommend that over just red wine. It adds a great flavor component to the dish.

Love this recipe and have made it 2 times in the past month. My one change in this recipe was to reduce the garlic amount to one clove only. I scratched my first batch of garlic and onions cause I thought it would have overpowered the other ingredients. The smooth, saltiness of the goat cheese and the sweetness of the onions & figs with just a little hint of garlic was perfect. Will definitely make again!

Absolutely delicious recipe. I prefered the figs and onions in smaller pieces, so I large-diced the figs and sliced the onions and then cut them into thirds. I thought it was easier to eat. I agree with previous reviews that stated you could reduce the goat cheese from 2# to 2-11 oz. logs. Would definitely make this again.

Served it for the first time at Bunco and everyone loved it. Am making it again for Christmas dinner. It's a winner.

So, I tried this recipe out today. I thought it was tasty but kind of bland for my taste. I read some of the reviews and I believe that the issue with the dip getting 'stiff' when it cools off would be solved by using fresh ripe figs, which is what I did. The dip has cooled off considerable as of the time I'm writing this review and it's still quite spreadable! I also made garlic/rosemary infused olive oil to use instead of so much rosemary because I think that particular herb can be overwhelming. I slightly toasted my baguette slices and brushed them with the rosemary/garlic olive oil as well. Additionally, I served it with sliced pears and fuji apples. I think I would make this recipe again for a large group as it seems to go far and relatively inexpensive to make.

I made this for a dinner party and my guests completly demolished it. I love the combo of onions, figs & goat cheese and it was super-easy to make.
I have made many of the Hearty Boys' recieps and have never been dissapointed.

This is a wonderful classic dish. I cut the entire recipe in half and prepare it in a pyrex dish (about 7" diameter. My only change is to use port, brandy or red wine in place of the sherry, only because I don't drink sherry but always have a bottle of the afore mentioned open : To properly caramelize onions I believe in the low and slow method, which takes a good hour. In addition to crostini, I like to serve this with apple slices.
