After reading all the great reviews, I really thought this was going to be excellent, but was a little disappointed. My family seemed to like it, but I felt that it was really missing something. I kept adding salt and pepper, but that didn't do it. Maybe next time I would use beef broth instead of stock and omit the salt. It just seemed like it needed a richer flavor.

This soup was so easy to make and the wine added such a delicious touch. I used beef broth instead of stock (it was what I had! and then did not need to add salt. It was as delicious as could be even with the substitution. I wanted to saute the onions in the pot to be used for soup, and even that was easy despite the time it took. I highly recommend this recipe.

This was great, and I wouldn't cut back on the onions because then it would lack the great flavor--I'll probably cook it as the recipe states next time, just remove about half of the onions before serving it so there's more of the great flavored liquid.
Probably the easiest of all the french onion soups I've tried--I'll make it again, for sure!

This recipe was "just ok" for me.
I love French Onion soup and there was just something missing. The tyme adds an odd flavor I would prob. omit it next time and add a little wooster sauce.

Paula,
This soup is great. I made it for dinner tonight as I wanted to make something different. Now I know that my husband and one daughter are not huge onion fans, they both LOVED the soup. IT was very good. Because there are only 4 of us having dinner I did not add as many onions. I used like 4 and less broth. I will for sure make this one again.

Family loved it! We have recently discovered french onion soup in restaurants and have been spending a small fortune. This is and I quote "better than restaurant quality" soup Mom. Onions look like too much at first but don't be fooled. I sliced them in my food processor and it worked perfectly, didn't shed a tear. Thanks Paula!

I'm a huge fan of Paula Deen and many of her recipes, but sadly, I was a little let down with this one. I thought it relied too heavily on the beef stock, there wasn't really a whole lot of flavor. To tweek it a little, I added some butter and a whole lot of salt and pepper. I would also suggest doing a blend of both swiss and gruyere.
