If I could give this negative stars I would. This in no way tastes like a real King Cake. The only similarity is the three colors of sugar on the top. Real King Cakes are rich and buttery with cinnamon, nutmeg, and lemon notes. Dry bread with a disgusting glaze is an insult to King Cakes. The only way someone would call this good is if they have never had a real traditional King Cake.

I LOVE this!! It's the BEST recipe I've made from the Food Network!!! Now I did not use the entire can of frosting...and I used milk instead of heavy cream...but it was SO pretty that I had to take pictures of it...and ALMOST didn't want to eat it!!

    It tasted absolutely DIVINE!!! YUMMY!!!

So now I have something I can make for an occasion...and something I can also make for my family anytime. THANK YOU, thank you, thank you! :

Sandra Lee is a wonderful creative "Idea Person" and I love her show!!! Today I am taking her fun idea for a King Cake and making it instead for my next Baby Shower! I will do the same thing I do when I make a cinnamon rolls with Pillsbury biscuits. I will dip each bread stick into melted butter, then roll them in blended cinnamon sugar prior to braiding. After baking and frosting the braided ring, I will use pink and blue sugar if my Mom guest of honor doesn't know the sex of her baby, blue sugar if the baby is a boy, and pink sugar if the baby is a girl. The guest who gets the plastic baby will also win a prize. Thank you Sandra!!! I LOVE entertaining and you inspire my creative juices on a regular basis!!!

If I could give this recipe negative stars, I would. This is NOT king cake. King cake is a great deal more like a massive cinnamon roll. There are sometimes fruit or custard fillings. There is also a very simple, sugar based icing and then colored sugar is sprinkled on the top. There are a wide variety of types of King Cakes but none exclude Cinnamon and filling. None have heavily flavored frosting. This is thoroughly disappointing!

Oh yummy! I just ADORE it when Sandra Lee take cultural traditions and completely obliterates their meaning. Kudos!

There sadly is a can of frosting, note the can of whipped cream cheese frosting. LOL Now it is a total abomination!

We enjoyed making this 'cake' and I loved being able to make bread without having to wait hours for it...the children simply don't have the patience to wait that long. Thank you for such an imaginative way of making a kings cake.

Having had real King Cake on several occasions, this thing is an abomination!

How absurd is it that so many viewers are judging this simple recipe for it not being a days worth of work and "worthy" of their blessing.. I think it is wonderful that Sandra can give me simple recipes that I can share with my kids and still have time to explain the story behind their origins. Bravo Sandra for your simple ideas for those of us that are full time working mothers that would like to have something to share with our families but don't have a whole day to spend on making it. I could understand the whining a bit more if the title of the show was "COMPLETELY HOMEMADE- SPEND ALL DAY COOKING". Keep up the good work!

Sandra Lee is a menace to real food, and she's particularly adept at butchering ethnic recipes. You have only to look up her godawful "Kwanzaa Cake" to see what hideous deeds she is capable of. If you choose to use this recipe, DO NOT, for the love of Kronus, call it King Cake!
