I made this today to take to a friends house for dessert. It was delicious! I followed the recipe exactly. I had the crystallization issue but just added a little more water to the pot and moved the pot to mix water in, it worked great!

The caramel sauce was just unbelievable and super easy to make. I followed the directions exactly and I came up with a super smooth sauce that tasted great over homemade ice cream. I can't wait to try this over baked apples or simply as a dipping sauce for apple slices. Ina nails it again!

So good, made this one night for the family and it disappeared! Just make sure your candy thermometer is functional.

I had the same problem with it crystalizing into a giant lump. I added more water to it and broke up the clumps, turned heat down to low and gently dissolved it into a syrup again. Then continued with the recipe as directed, swirling pan occasionally. I managed to save the caramel sauce!

I attempted this recipe twice with no luck either time. Both attempts crystallized and hardened. A previous reviewer in Utah had similar results, I am in Colorado Springs. Could it be the altitude? Very dissapointing.

I am a recent college graduate and am very new to cooking. I have never made candy or any sort of caramel sauce, so I was a bit intimidated to try this one without a candy thermometer. Turns out, I didn't need one... The instructions were so simple and straightforward that even a newbie like me was able to make this wonderful caramel sauce. I couldn't stop licking the spatula and my friends were shocked that me, the girl that used to BURN PASTA, could make this.

Thanks Ina, this desert was wonderful!!!
