Even though the pumpkin gooey butter cake is my favorite, this one comes in second place! It is easy to make and my family loves it! I took it to a family pool party and it was gobbled up in no time. Absolutely delicious!

I had never made a gooey butter cake and I'm glad this was my first. The bottom batter is similar to brownies but with the gooey butter batter on top it makes for a delicious chocolate cake. I used devils food cake mix and added an extra egg which worked out very well. It is better the next day because the cake settles into its perfect state. Serving it with vanilla ice cream sounds amazing too!

This desert was unbelievably good. I made a cream cheese frosting using 8oz cream cheese, 3/4 C powdered sugar, 1tsp Vanilla bean powder, cocoa powder to taste and a touch of heavy cream to get the right consistency (these are the ingredients I had on hand so I made the most of them. After I used this as a frosting I sprinkled mini chocolate chips, fresh raspberries on top and light powdered sugar for a pretty look. Oh, I also added mini chocolate chips in with the filling before baking (not a lot. Not a desert for someone on a diet that is for sure. This turned out so rich and creamy I thought my husband was going to have a melt down. He could not stop saying OMG this is sooooo good with every bite. It made me laugh. Thanks Paula, my husband now thinks I am a cooking goddess.

This is fabulous! We ate it w/ strawberries on the side, but I am going to try rasberries next. Reading the recipe I think its obvious that it won't be light and fluffy. This is not a brownie either, it is better in so many ways. You have to try them to understand. This is also a recipe where a little goes a long way. I wouldn't serving heaping slices, b/c of the fabulous richness. Definately the best choco cake I've ever had! TY Paula!

I was prepared to be wowed by this cake after reading so many wonderful reviews. I love cakes and cookies, so I thought this would be right up my alley. I didn't like it. It tasted like a brownie, and not a very good one. I saw someone suggested putting icing on the cake, and I think that is what it needs. However, how could I do that after putting a box of powdered sugar in the filling? I had hoped to make this when the kids come down from Georgia, but I won't. Like other things I don't like, this cake is going to be fed to the goats. Sorry, Paula. I do love you.

I tried this recipe and loved it so much that I decided to make it for work one night. Everyone loved it. I had to print the recipe and make copies before I could leave work. My nursing supervisor was one that wanted a copy. She later came back for the recipe again, stating that she made it, everyone loved it, and wanted to make it again, but misplaced the recipe. I want to try the other gooey butter cake recipes, but I just can't bring myself to get away from this one. Thanks Paula, I think I owe a few extra pounds to you!

I wanted a cake recipe that would be heavenly that wouldn't need to be frosted or fussed over so I tried this recipe. It was a winner in the taste category. It isn't as pretty as some of the other cakes, but a little whipped cream on top takes care of the plating! Everyone kept coming back for more! I'm making it again right now for company tomorrow.

I made this cake for Valentines day clients of mine for a dinner party I catered- they loved it! For some reason the cake tasted even better the next day I guess after it had time to cool & set. Used Duncan Hines Swedish cake mix. served it with homemade caramel & homestyle vanilla ice cream. Awsome

I baked this cake for my husband's birthday party two years ago. SInce then, it is requested every time we have a family get-together or a potluck party at work. This cake can bring people together...it's that good! This cake is awesome! Thank goodness for Paula Dean and butter!
