I made the spice myself and didn't have all the ingredients. It still tasted good. My husband said it was good and I could make it again.

I mixed my own Harissa using the following measures and this was VERY good. I cut the cayenne in half, the 'original' mixture called for 2 Tbsp. It had a little heat, but just right. My family really enjoyed this! The cucumber seemed a little odd, but it really made this recipe rock! A nice balance to the heat.
1 teaspoon ground caraway seed
1 tablespoon cayenne pepper
1 tablespoon ground cumin
1 clove garlic
1/2 teaspoon salt

This recipe is a delightful combination of earthy, sweet, spicy and cool. But do try the ingredients as listed before you start substituting. I think perhaps the first reviewers did not understand or did not use harissa. Harissa is NOT simply an equal amount of Cayenne pepper! It also comes in different degrees of heat. If you can't find it at your local grocery, you can easily make your own and adjust it to suit your own tastebuds Go to: http://mideastfood.about.com/od/dipsandsauces/r/harissa.htm but if you have a good spice shop or a Middle Eastern restaurant nearby, by all means use theirs.

I was eager to try this recipe after I saw it on TV but was seriously disappointed! Very spicy (and I like spicy! even though I cut down on the spices. I ended up tossing this out.

and I only added 1 heaping TB of cayenne.
