I only used this recipe for the actual matzo balls. Sadly, I took the easy way out and used a mix for the broth. The matzo balls were phenomenal! Whenever I make matzo balls, there's a 50% chance they come out rock hard. I don't know why because I never change the method. Not the case with these. I think the baking soda is the secret ingredient. I didn't have schmaltz on hand so I just used canola oil. I also cut the recipe in half, and still got 24 walnut sized pieces! These were the softest matzo balls ever. Ridiculous tasty! I see why they won in the showdown!

Really good soup. I cooked the matzo balls over medium high heat otherwise they will fall apart. Also with the broth I added a spice packet with cloves, rosmary, peppercorns and mustard seeds. Otherwise really really good.

I can't wait to try this - it sounds wonderful!

A comment about the three (3 reviews that are nothing but advertisements for their own websites. This is disgraceful. This site is for food & cooking!!

Best matzo ball soup I have ever tasted. Served it for Chanukah and got compliments from everyone!

A great way to put a little life in this usually bland soup. Jewish cooking doesn't have to be boring and thanks to chefs as Bobby Flay and Ina Garten holiday cooking has been more exciting. Thanks for the ideas.
