This is delicious! To facilitate preparation, I poured the egg mixture into a jelly roll pan. I was able to treat all the slices of bread at once. When I turned them over, I placed the almonds on top and pressed them in gently. I cooked them on my griddle... Was able to make plenty for everyone in short order time. I will make it again and again!

I have always loved french toast, but this recipe is simply wonderful. the hint of orange zest makes occasional bites spectacular. can't wait to impress a guest with this dish!

I omitted the liquer (didn't have it and cut out some of the orange zest, but it was still absolutely delicious. Ina is right - challah makes a fantastic French toast. I left the bread slices on racks overnight to dry them, and they soaked up lots of the custard but didn't become soggy messes.
