I first made this in 2010 after I saw it on her show. Everyone loves this sauce. The following year I made a double batch, canned it in jars and gave it as a gift with some homemade pasta. It was a hit. I constantly have requests to make it for many occasions. The sauce has a deep, great taste.

We have made this sauce as a Christmas gift for 10-12 people for at least 5 years now. Everyone we've given it to loves it! I put the jars into a gift bag, along with a package of spaghetti and a homemade dessert of some type. We usually cut down on the mushrooms (my preference...not a big mushroom fan. Other than that, we don't change anything. We use a locally-owned business's marinara sauce that is sold in near-by shops, as the homemade spaghetti sauce I make just wouldn't work with this recipe.

Very very tasty! My guests and family loved this dish.
We served it with linguini and Parmesan cheese.
Simple to make as well. Will definitely make again.

You don't "can" the sauce!!! You give it in a canning jar and tell your friend to refrigerate it until you use it.....dunder head!

I saw this episode where this sauce was put in a gift basket unrefrigerated. Did I miss something or is this a dangerous thing to do? I can at home and was under the impression that canning any meat products requires a pressure canner etc to prevent botulism...
A sauce with tomatoes only can be canned with just a water bath-either way it seems odd to me to make a suce with meat-pour it in a jar, put in a basket unrefrigerated and give away.

I made this last Christmas and gave it as gifts. My whole family loved it and said it was the best sauce they'd ever had. It is very easy. Don't skip the carrots, they give the sauce a nice sweetness and texture. I'm about to make it again!

This recipe is so simple, but so...good. It's comfort food in the winter and has a deep, rich feeling to it. But it is also light and healthy for a warm weather pasta. Great year round!
