I made a half-batch due to the reviews here. These were deliciously different and i didnt alter anything except for using a few mandarine oranges that i was trying to finish-up. Also, today was a hot day so the butter was VERY soft when i mixed it.
This is NOT a traditional cookie and i like making and eating variety.
If you are "just ok" about cornmeal, skip this recipe as the lingering crackle of the cornmeal stays with you for a while. next time i will make them smaller... so i can eat more lol

After reading all the comments I was little bit scared so I did not use polenta but substituted with a half of cup of chopped nuts and half a cup of whole grain flour. I also used extra two eggs to make it more wet. The cookies came out perfectly I did love them, but I have to admit the filling needs to have some tartness to it or some refreshing filling like lime or lemon otherwise they will be too sweet.

I read a lot of the reviews before baking these cookies and I was a little weary about making them, but I am glad I did. I used less corn meal than was asked and grated some dark chocolate into the cookies as well. I added two eggs to the batter which made the cookies softer and moist. I only used half of the butter for the filling and used marscopone cheese for the other half. The cookies were a huge success with my friends.

I have made these on several occasions. I just love the crunch from the cornmeal and the chocolate orange filling. I agree, they would probably be amazing with cream cheese frosting.

How I wish I would have read the reviews before trying this. I was so disappointed. The cornmeal created a gritty texture that was inedible to me. The "cream" filling had too much butter.

If you do insist on trying this recipe, let the cookies cool completely on a wire rack, otherwise they will fall apart. Also, the filling might not be so bad if maybe cream cheese took the place of some of the butter.

Wayyy too sweet! Theyre OK overall but, they are just so sweet, you need milk with it or something. Also, it is Very time consuming. I dont think it is worth it.

I used the recipe with polenta and it turned out so gritty, I had to throw them all away. I was just in the grocery store and saw that they have a plenta that is fully cooked and comes in a plastic tube shaped llike a sausage. This may be the reason that it didn't turn out. Does it have to be cooked polenta? I used a dry granular substance that turned out like sand cookies.

Everyone who rates this poorly is crazy and probably did not bake these correctly. Mine turned out to be delicious and everyone that tried them agreed that while they are different than most cookies, they are very good. The filling is sweet, but aren't cookies supposed to be sweet? My suggestion is to be sure not to roll your dough too thin. But I followed the directions exactly and they were great.
