This soup was so simple to make, and it was DELICIOUS! I had a large ham bone with some meat left on it from Easter, threw it in with the beans while they cooked, and the flavor was wonderful! My friend uses ham base flavoring with her bean soup, no need to use it with this recipe! This is a keeper!

Like it or not this is the recipe right off the U.S. Senate website. I use the meaty bone of the ham because I think it gives more flavor.

Not enough flavor, too bland. I added a can of chicken stock and some hot sauce. If I ever make it again I would add carrots and some spinach, chicken stock and hot sauce.

Our whole family enjoyed the bean soup. I liked that all I had to do was chop some onions and saute them. Because I was pressed for time, I used four cans of Navy beans instead of dried beans and added a little broth. It was great. Love ya, Paula.
