We were so excited about making these and it was a disaster. No matter what we tried the chocolate did not stick to the gelato. We ended up rolling some in the nuts and then drizzingly the chocolate on but it does not look good at all. For graduation party......now we need a new plan:-(

This looked so good and easy, but when I tried to make it and went to dip in the ice cream (I used ice cream instead of gellato it melted and fell apart -- the ice cream "bite" disintegrated into the melted chocolate. I don't know if gellato would have made a difference, but the recipe said you could use ice cream.

I made these for a big family gathering. I had the same problems as the other people did. They tasted fine but they took alot of time and were very unattractive. I could have spent less time and made a better homemade dessert from scratch. I will say that I have realy enjoyed Giada's other recipes that I have tried.

As other reviewers stated, the chocolate did not stick to the ice cream and the ice cream was quick to melt. I ended up covering half the ball with chocolate and then dipping it in sliced almonds (would have used hazelnut if I had it. Given the time it takes to make this, you're better off scooping the ice cream in a bowl, covering it in chocolate sauce, and then putting hazelnuts on top!

The chocolate I used was too thick to cover the ice cream at once, and it didn't stick to the icecream either. The trick was to cover half of the ball, and it looked pretty, too, but I had to add cream to the chocolate and use it as a ganache...

Just like the first 3 reviews, it was not as "easy" as seen on TV. Could not get the melted chocolate to stay on ice cream. Had to drizzle chocolate on instead, which worked. Pretty good taste.

The melted chocolate melted the ice-cream and the cold ice-cream hardened the chocolate. It was a mess. I ended up using chocolate syrup and just froze that instead.

I agree with the first reviewer, the ice cream melted in the chocolate, then the chocolate was ruined and had to start all over again to get to the same disastreous end. Bad choice for somebody's birthday... Either one hour is not enough in the freezer or they use tv tricks to make us think that it works!

This rcipe did not work for me. The melted chocolate did not stick to the gelato and the gelato melted into the chocolate. I ended up using soft shell and it worked well.
