I was especially interested in this recipe because of the intriguing flavor combination and because we have some wonderful, last-of-the-season gulf shrimp to use up in a special way. The recipe as printed was pretty bland. I doubled the amount of the cumin, cocoa and coriander, added several cloves of smashed garlic (because we always use garlic!, some lime juice. In addition I chopped up some of the shrimp and blended them with some of the soup, and added all to the rest of the soup. I used some great greek yogurt instead of sour cream and some great lime tortilla chips at the end. This version was delicious!

Great hearty soup. Not sure what that other reviewer made, but this was great. The chocolate is just a hint in the background. I'd recommend and make this for all my friends. Made it last night, they thought it was better than a restaurants' recipe.

this was a great soup, the whole family loved it. You can substitute the shrimp for chicken if you aren't a fish person. But if you are try sauteing the shrimp with garlic and butter before adding it to the soup.
