I am Puertorrican and this recipe is all wrong. For the tostones (as in the name of the recipe you use green plantains(unripe. This recipe is using ripe ones. Now,to make fried green plant. (tostones you take the plant and cut it in 1 in. rounds, fry it until golden, press it with a tostonera(or the back of a small plate, fry it again, done. Sweet plantains (ripe can be fried too, but are not called tostones, are called amarillos.

while livin in puerto rico with my aunt, this was one of my favorite recipes...we make them without the mojo...there is actually a salsa that goes with this that makes it 100times better..of course if u eat these without the salsa they taste rather basic...the salsa is tomatoe ketchup mayo and chopped up garlic..and the garlic is what gives it the tangy awesome flavor...try it and you will change ur opinion and realize how delicious tostones really are!

My best friend was making this for my birthday this year... THANK GOD she only made 3. You need to use the ripe plantain for this or else you end up with a taste bud nightmare.

I haven't had fried plantains since high school, and was excited to have them with this menu. Honestly, just out of the fryer they were best, but even then, just OK. Not even the garlic mojo could save these. Boring.

The recipe methodology given here is accurate, but it is using the wrong plantains!

For "Fried Green Plantains" you need
'green' plantains - not ripe! If you use ripe plantains you will have mush on your 'toston smasher' or a pice of plantain stuck on the bottom of your pot!

There is a big mistake on the recipe, this is done with green plantains, you use ripe plantains for Platanos Maduros. The tostones are delicious even without the mojo.
