This is one of my favorite vegetable recipes. It's easy to make, can be prepared ahead of time, and it's tasty. Definitely a nice change from standard steamed broccoli with butter. The balsamic vinaigrette went really well with the broccolini. My 7 year old loved it too.

This was a wonderful dish, very different from anything I have done previously with broccoli.

I wasn't a big fan of this recipe. The balsamic vinaigrette was just too vinegary for my taste...won't be making it this way again.

It's a nice way to prepare broccolini. I cooked the broccolini for 3 minutes, didn't cold shock and it was tender but with a crunch - just the way I like it.

I made this recipe as it's written and it was a nice change from plain steamed broccolini, but I wouldn't go out of my way to make it again. I love most of Ina's recipes, just not this one.

I was sick of eating the same vegetables over and over and one day I was flipping through her book and came across this recipe and decided to make it. I'm a fan of balsamic vinegar, garlic and mustard, so I figured what the heck. It was GREAT! Way beyond my expectations. I liked it so much I've made it 3-4 time in the past 2 months.

Hi all!
Hey, I kust watched this show on TV.....didn't I ?
Isn't this the episode where my favorite Contessa surprises her favorite guy with a surprise party on the beach?
Didn't she make this dish ahead of time and take it to the beach already prepared?
How come the "blanching" step and the followup immersion in the icy cold water was left out of this printed version?
Anyway, I followed the TV process and then drained and dried the broccolini. To avoid the boiling broccoli stench I used vegetable stock instead of water and this worked great.
But the best trick was using fresh garlic and mincing it up with my kitchen knife instead of using that bottled minced stuff and using only 1/2 of a lemon instead of an entire lemon, heeding the advice offered by other commentors (and I thank all of you!.
I let my 2 bunches of trimmmed broccolini boil 5 minutes in the veggie stock before shocking them. I let the shocked, drained, and dryed broccolini marinade in the garlic-oil-mustard-balsalmic mix for a 1/2 hour and then I warmed it up in the microwave before serving because I wasn't certain that I would like it cold.
I added the half lemon squeeze just before serving along with another round of fresh cracked pepper (but no more salt.
Result- delicious! Devoured completely by 2 adults and the stench of cooking broccoli was avoided almost entirely.
Can't say if this dish would work with cold broccolini as a picnic salad as the TV episode kind of implied.
We enjoyed the dish served warm (not hot and the garlic fresh.
Happy Spring!

My husband hates vegetables, but he gobbled this broccoli down and went back for a lot more.
