Inedible. Was so embarrassed to have served this to guests. Grapefruit is just way too bitter and thin to bake. It's a citrus. Warm, liquidy, bitter goo with foamy egg on top. Just don't do it.

This may work with something like peaches. if you turn it into a sort of cobbler. But then its a different recipe all together

I like this recipe. I decided to try mandarin oranges instead of grapefruit and it turned out good. I actually want to try mangoes next...: It was quick and easy and a nice change from the usual desserts.

i thought this dessert was delicious - added chopped crystallized ginger to grapefruit. Made the dessert in a coffee cup as suggested. It is easy, fairly healthy ( use frozen yogurt etc. and inexpensive.
Taste the fruit and adjust sugar accordingly. Maybe some people who wrote negative reviews don't like grapefruit!

I love grapefruit - so was not surprised that I loved this combination! I will definitely be including it in my breakfast repertoire at the Bed & Breakfast that I run (Mountain Goat Lodge, Salida CO.
I made this in a large but shallow coffee cup - and the meringue swirled and puffed up and got golden brown - looking like a Latte! Sorry I ate it before thinking of taking a photo (next time.
I think the reviewers that did not like this either did something wrong - or just plain don't like grapefruit. I think it is a home run! Very sophisticated, impressive, but easy.

The meringue was wonderful but the grapefruit was a bit too tart. I will try it with some apples tonight and see how it turns out. The dessert on the whole was delicious but the grapefruit needs to be substituted.

I thought this looked absolutely delicious on the episode and I loved it after I made it also. The sweetness of the ice cream and meringue balanced the tartness of the grapefruit. Very refreshing but also warming. Definitely makes you want to curl up next to a fire. I'll be making this one for a long time!

I thought the grapefruit dessert was refreshing yet the presentation was so stunning, my husband was impress that I did it. I added some blueberries with the grape fruit that I peel the membrane off and it tasted wonderful. I'd make it again!

I was shocked when I read the reviews. I have served this several times and received raves from my family & guests. I have to admit I substituted seasonal fruit for the grapefruit...southern peaches several times and bananas w/fresh cherries last week. I think any fruit will work. I am anxious to try apples in the fall. Another addition...peach schnapps to the peach mixture and bourbon to the banana mixture. Not only does the dessert taste like I know what I'm doing it is very impressive when I serve the individual ramekins with the beautiful meringue surface.

This was easy to make. Although I was skeptical about the combination, I thought I would give it a try, seeing as I had all the ingredients on hand. I made it for a friend and we both enjoyed it. I actually cut the grapefruit and mixed it with the sugar and let it sit in the refrigerator for an hour. Also, I did not cook it for 7 minutes, I shortened the time to about 4 minutes.
