When I use Mayo, instead of Miracle Whip, I add vinegar, sugar, cayenne pepper, white pepper and milk to the Miracle Whip to make the dressing--same difference, good results.

love miracle whip but my family are best foods fanatics. This was very good though I really like more mayo and some celery for crunch.
The good thing about recipes is you can adapt them to whatever you like.

A great basic recipe. I usually can't leave well enough alone on a recipe and added a few things here and there: some cider vinegar, white sugar, celery seed, a splash of dill pickle juice, some diced celery and some pimento. Sprinkle with paprika and freshly ground pepper when serving. Yum!
PS - My husband insists he doesn't like Miracle Whip so I'll sometimes use Miracle Whip for half and Duke's Mayonnaise for the other half of a recipe.

Mary, Miracle Whip (on the East Coast isn't a basic mayonnaise. It's called Miracle Whip Salad Dressing here and has a completely different taste than Hellman's Mayo. You either love it or hate it. Since i'm not a fan, I used mayonnaise. Try it with whatever you have. Either way, it makes a drier potato salad. It's O.K.

How nice to have a potato salad not drenched in mayo with great potato flavor.
Mary -- Miracle Whip/Best Foods is Hellman's west of the Rockies -- the brand was just a suggestion; use your favorite brand, but it's inexcusable to give a bad rating becauee you've never heard of the recommended brand. Mary and Julie -- how can you rate this if you didn't make it?
