I made these wings last night and thought the sauce was great but I used barely any Red Wine Vinegar after reading the other reviews. Had I put the 1/2 Cup suggested I think it would have overpowered everything else. The dipping sauce is amazing though!!

The chile sauce was really tasty and delicious, but next time I would probably halve the amount of vinegar, because the vinegar was almost too overpowering. I tasted the sauce when it was almost done and added more honey and more chilies from the can of chile in adobo sauce to try to tone down the vinegar, but the vinegar was still very strong. Even so, the sauce was very good and I will make again.

I made these this past weekend. They were so good that I had to make another batch! My bf and I loved them! I highly recommend. They're spicy, but not too spicy, it's just the right amount of heat, sweetness and tang. Love them!

Okay the 5 stars are for the sauce. I made my hot wings with emiril's cajun seasonings. But Bobby Flay's blue cheese-yogurt sauce is out of this world! I added 1 tsp. of minced garlic to it, used a block of blue cheese and crumbled it into the sauce. My bf loved it and we both ate 2 lbs of wings ourselves. Very good sauce!!

These were good, but not great. Too much vinegar in the sauce (note: I made them from the Throwdown cookbook which says 3/4 c red wine vinegar ... I see on here it is 1/2 c, and the sauce was way too thin ... it did not really stay on the wings well. Some nice flavors, but a little overpowered by vinegar. I also made Drew's version -- delicious flavor, and much better consistency, but a touch too sweet for us. So then I combined both sauces half and half -- very good! I think that's how I would do it in the future, a "Frankenstein" combination of both recipes.

I made these for a New Year's party last night (3x wings, 2x dressing and 4x sauce and the guests loved them! My husband liked them too but was disappointed in the lack of heat.

Couldn't find ancho chili powder so I used 2 fresh ancho's. Charred them and then pureed them w/the chipotle's. I also used garlic wine vinegar. Based on other reviews, I chose to use less vinegar (1 1/2 cups and the sauce was still overpowered by vinegar. Added about 1/2 c. brown sugar to help tone it down. I used only 1 stick of butter. I baked the wings on racks at 375 for about 35 min. I seasoned them with a different rub prior to baking.

The only reason I'm rating this 3 stars is because of the lack of heat and the overpowering vinegar taste of the sauce.

If you're looking for a recipe that has a dominant southwestern flavor, not much heat and a vinegar based sauce, I highly recommend giving this one a try. The search for the mexican ingredients is well worth the effort. Happy New Year!!! :-

These wings were amazing, they were super tender and so flavorful. I am such a huge fan of blue cheese so the sauce was absolutly perfect. i put a splash of balsamic vinegar in it to give it some acidity and it was perfect. A great way to use the rest of the sauce? try slicing some tomatoes very thin, splashing them with a little lemon juice, add some very finly sliced basil and pour over the sauce and enjoy. Totally delicious lol ^_^

If you like southern & hispanic flavors, this dish is a must. Super easy & quick recipe if you don't fry the chicken.
** Healthier alterations: instead of deep frying, I grilled the seasoned wings (minus the flour of course, and used only 1-2 tbls butter instead of a stick (I think you could even get away with omitting it entirely b/c it's not a major flavor component in this dish. Chicken was still crispy & sauce creamy. Next time I'm using chicken legs for less fat content & easier consumption.
Dip is awesome even with potatoes & raw veggies.

These wings were so delicious! My mother made them and everybody enjoyed the wings! They went by very fast. The only problem is they are a little time consuming! Best wings ever!
