I am not a beer drinker. I think the taste is too bitter. So I didn't use it in the batter. Instead I used soda water, which is classic to tempura batter. Rice flour was not available, so I used bread flour, which has more crunch than all purpose flour. I also added a shot of vodka so the alcohol would help make the rings crispier (and since I had omitted the beer. Great crunch. Perfect presentation. I know it's not the exact recipe, and for that I am giving it 4 stars instead of 5. Thanks Tyler.

followed the recipe to the letter. came out with a gritty tasting, but not lumpy batter that crisped before the onion was done, so the onion was very oily and the batter flaked off. tried the batter on other veggies with the same result. i will not be trying this again

The problem with this receipt is the beer. Beer contains gluten. So it's not good for you healthwise.

I really like Chef Florence but what happened here!!!!!
I followed the recipe to the letter. They looked beautiful. Bit into it and all I tasted was bitter baking soda. This is aweful. I will not use it again even if you make corrections.

I've never used white rice flour but found that it is great for making a batter. We enjoyed the onion rings. The recipe called for a cup of beer but i found I had to use the whole bottle of beer to make the batter like a pancake batter, also I think the batter would be better if it had some spices like smoked paprika or seasoning salt added in.

The onion ring recipe was very time consuming and overall disappointing. The onion rings looked wonderful but they tasted pretty bland and also a bit bitter. After we fried up the first set and tasted them we decided to omit the flour coating step (the batter stayed on fine without the flour, just make sure you remember to remove the thin membrane between the onion layers and we added some sugar and more salt and pepper. This helped to add some flavor and tone down the bitterness. Also I think that 1 large Onion would be plenty, (we cut up 2 onions as the recipe said and had lots of cut onion left after using up all the batter. We will not be making these again.

Usually Tyler's recipes are excellent but this one was definately one of the worst onion rings I have ever tasted. It was bitter and the batter did not stick to the onions even with the additional dusting of rice flour. I will not be making this recipe again.

I was excited to find a recipe for frying that was gluten free; however, I was very disapointed. The batter did not adhear to the oinons well (even after dipping them in additional flour, it was gritty, and when I tried one, it was not pleasant tasting. It seemed to hold a lot of oil. I ended up dumping the batter and making some from a mix we had in the cupbaord for the family. I honestly have nothing good to say about this recipe.
