I MADE THIS TODAY FOR MY FAMILY. MY HUSBAND AND SIX KIDS, LOVED IT.
MY OLDEST DOES NOT LIKE MAYO AT ALL, BUT EVEN HE COULDN'T GET ENOUGH OF THE SANDWICH. I MADE IT ALONG WITH WALKABOUT SOUP....... AWESOME.

I was hesitant to put an apple on a sandwich....but I made this and my girlfriend and neighbor and I all loved it. The red onion mayo is terrific but don't over do it. It just makes the sandwich messy. I still have the mayo in the fridge and have used it on roast beef and corned beef sandwiches. I may never use regular mayo again.

This was fun and easy to make and tasted delicious! I added some grilled chicken to it to make it a little more hearty and it tasted like something you would order at a restaurant. I also put it on a panini press after I assembled it instead of grilling this way it was evenly heated and everything melted together.

Who could have guessed that such a simple list of ingredients could render such a terrific sandwich. I had to rush so instead of the red onion mayo, I just added red onion salted and sauteed in butter to the layers of cheese, apple and bacon and omitted the mayo completely. Still got rave reviews from my husband and kids.

I'm writing this while awaiting the arrival of "Hanna". I saw Paula make this trecipe his morning and just had to make it. Our power kept flickering so I made the sandwich in a pan on my little butane burner. It was fabulous. I didn't make the roasted onion mayo because the power was sporadic, but the sandwich was a winner. My husband and I are now fortified to face the storm. Thanks Paula

This decadent sandwich is a winner! Lots of fat, so it is indulgent, but sooo good. I'm not a big mayonaise fan, so I was a little skimpy with the amount of roasted onion mayo I put on each sandwich, and as soon as I tasted the flavor with the first bite, I wished I had used more. I used light mayo, and I think it would be impossible to tell the difference here. We took these to an outdoor concert, and they were still a little warm, but not hot off the griddle like you would normally want to eat a grillled cheese sandwich. It didn't matter - they were still yummy! This would be great during football season!

Such a great sandwich! My family loved them. But next time I will only use two slices of cheese. 4 slices for one sandwich was way to much. Other than that it is a great recipe.
    Another great one Paula!!!!

Although the apples and bacon made grilled cheese more interesting, i think regular grilled cheese is simpler and more satisfying. Also, I had trouble getting the cheese to melt around the apples and bacon, so the sandwich was constantly falling apart. Also, I didn't bother making the red onion mayo because it seemed like 4 slices of cheese (which i didn't use quite that much anyway, was enough saturated fat for one sandwich
