I've never heard of hot dogs in sloppy joes and we aren't much for hot dogs so I left them out. I used A1 for the steak seasoning, added 1/2 tsp garlic powder and 1 tsp salt and I cooked the onions with the meat. Absolutely scrumptious. It has a bit of a spicy kick but not so much the kids won't eat it and it's missing the ketchupy/sugary sweetness of most sloppy joe recipes. Another Rachel Ray hit.

Made for Memorial Day '09 ... used lean ground turkey & OM light turkey & pork dogs cut 1/4 inch wide ... then, in the end, put all over whole wheat rotini. All disappeared in a flash! Read the other comments and will kick up some heat in the future! Will double this recipe next time, too. (Did not taste salty at all either, for those concerned about salt.

These were SO easy. I find ground turkey kind of bland, so this was a great recipe to flavor it up. I did withhold the hot dogs, as I was attempting to save a few calories. I liked that the ingredients weren't crazy, and that I had almost everything on hand. Added a clove of garlic and a couple of shakes of cayenne pepper to kick it up a notch. I'll never by canned sloppy joe sauce again!

OMG! I agree with the other reviews easy to prepare and the taste was AWESOME! My boyfriend is a "meat and potato" guy but he love it! It was perfect to feed a "man cave" full of hungry guys! I did add a small can of tomato paste to give it more texture. It was a total hit!

Wow is all I can say Rachael! A perfect amount of everything. We used the hot dogs and used the Ballpark ones and it was fabulous. Instead of the Montreal Steak seasoning we used the chicken and YUM-O! The ground turkey was very yummy too. We never eat sloppy joe from the can and LOVE THIS! NEVER AGAIN!!!

I was always a user of the pre-mixed packet sloppy joe seasoning (which, at the time, I thought tasted great... but not anymore. I've made this recipe multiple times, and it always turns out amazing! It is sooooo easy to make and tastes 100 times better than anything pre-made. I always omit the hot dogs, and just use all ground beef. Make sure to follow the exact amounts listed for the spices.... it is the PERFECT combination!

I've made this recipe a few times now and it really is simple-even for someone like me that was a vegetarian the first half of life and who takes forever to cook. Everyone I have made this for eats it right up including my 5 year old nephew who can be a picky eater. The recipe isn't spicy but that's part of what makes it so great for little taste buds.

Very quick and easy for sure, but it was a little bland for my taste even after I added four cloves of diced garlic, and a teaspoon each of cayenne and chilli powder. I thinik next time I will try some garlic powder as well and increase the cayenne to 1 Tblsn. Good baseline recipe though, can definitely adapt and build it to suit your tastebuds

Didn't use hot dogs, but used 1 large Sweet sausage link instead... EXCELLENT flavor, less salty than the S-Joe from a can... REALLY REALLY EASY to make!! Was EVEN BETTER the next day! It's NOT spicy at all, so I can see adding tabasco or hot sauce for people who want more "kick". Will definitely make this again!

We spiced this up with 1 tbsp garlic and used the spicy steak seasoning...oh my! Really jazzed this up nicely. Tried it the original way awhile back but think we will definately keep the spicy version. Even the kids went WOW.
