Let me preface this review by saying that one of my pet peeves is when people make modifications to the recipe and THEN review it. No. You review the recipe as it is written.
That is exactly what I did--followed it to a T.
I loved this, and my fiance hated it. Go figure. He tends to be a meat and potatoes kinda guy, though. I tend to like food and flavor combinations that are little out of the ordinary; this is no exception. I enjoyed how the mildly sweet, tangy grapefruit mixed with the savory vinaigrette. The texture was amazing--smooth and creamy with these pops of citrus.
Try this if you're willing to go out of your way to try something different.

After reading the reviews, I had some reservations but decided to trust Ina. Another winner. The creamy avocado slices were a perfect pairing with ruby red grapefruit wedges. This salad went great with Ina's chicken piccata, roasted potatoes, and a good bottle of sauvignon blanc. Great birthday dinner.

Interesting combo. Never had anything like it, but it's very quenching. I added a bit of honey to dressing.
I keep going back for more.

I read the reviews and thought I could make some adjustments to make it better. I didn't want a too tart dressing, so instead of the 1/4 cup lemon juice I used 1/4 cup grapefruit juice. I made the rest of the salad just as directed. I think the dressing was too salty. I would suggest cutting the salt down to 1/2 tsp. Regardless, it wasn't what I epxected. It wan't bad, but it wasn't great either. I will keep looking for a good grapefruit salad.

This takes me back to the 1950's, when avocado and grapefruit salad was haute cuisine. Ours was arranged in alternating slices of avocado and grapefruit, drizzled with that bright orange French dressing. It's even better today. Thanks Ina.

This recipe is a show-stopper! It's a little tart, so I've used Myer lemon or honey mustard in the dressing. I've served it plain and on top of buttery lettuces with a few shrimp. It's been a big hit every time I've made it.

Although the two main ingredients are very good alone together for me it didn't
blend well together...
