Hardly tasty and I don't suggest making them for anyone you would want to impress. I tried making these thinking I did not add enough butter so I added about another half of stick because the mixture wouldn't squeeze out of the bag. I don't know if I did something wrong but they tasted like cooked flour and burnt cheese. I'll stick with Cheez Its. Sorry Paula! I love everything else you make!!

I was disappointed and should have stuck to my old recipe as these are VERY flaky and soft - a little bland for my taste. I had to spoon them out like cookies and press with a fork and it took MUCH longer to bake than the suggested 15 minutes - more like 25 minutes. The last 2 pans I added more flour, some black pepper, and crushed cornflakes to give them a little p-zazzzz!

My first time making these they were for my friend and I therefore I half'd the recipe. The batter came out VERY dry..I had to mix with my hands and roll them out by hand into sticks. They came out pretty good but still tasted more on the flour side.. should I add more cheese? Also they fell apart VERY easily... what do I need for the sticks to hold? any suggestions welcomed email greennomnom@gmail.com

Thanks for the help.. I have to make these the right time again.. Sherry. I looked at your recipe few pages back and I did the same one so I must of been doing something wrong =(

These also taste much better if you grate your own cheese instead of using that nasty pre-grated stuff!

I don't know what you could be doing to not get a perfect straw. My family has been making these since I can remember. Our recipe is the same as this one. You can add herbs and change out the cheeses. Everyone has a different taste on the salt in every dish. I always use 1cup of a sharp white cheddar cheese from Ireland and 1 cup of a sharp yellow cheddar. I use a pinch of kosher salt bake at 350 for about 12 mins. Just watch them. Remember practice makes perfect !

I had been thinking about these since viewing Paula.I made tonight at the very last minute because the other plan did not come out. I put these together fast in a standing mixer with a hook.Used the gallon sized freezer bags to squeeze mixture through, the only thing I did different was used crushed red pepper flakes as It's all I had. They came out great! Even my sister who is a food critic LOVED them.
I will make them often.Thank you for another hit!

Hello, I saw the segment "Say Cheese" and thought I would make the cheese straws for a snack for my buncko group. I was very disappointed, they were extremely salty. I followed the receipe to the letter. Nothing could help them, they spread, they did not look anything like Paula made, but that saltiness really was the last straw, no pun intended. I tossed them, and bought already prepared product which I have tasted before and enjoyed. Sorry Paula, this one is not a winner.
