The flavour in this soup was absolutly amazing!!! Will definetly make again on one of those cold nights! If you're not to keen on spice, don't add so much pepper, just something to keep in mind.

The ground pepper was overwhelming in this recipe. It was way too spicy for my family. I will make this recipe again because I tasted it before adding the pepper and it was delicious. Next time, I will try 3/4 tsp. of pepper instead of 2 tsp.

Very good! I used fresh ground pepper - less than the recipe calls for. I also used 1/2 and 1/2 instead of heavy cream. My son loved it! Almost as good as the tomato soup we had skiing at Zermatt, Switzerland. But, I think that was due to the view of the Matterhorn... Definately will make again and again.... Thanks Ina!

I thought this soup was very good and lovely on a cold rainy day! I followed the recipe exactly with a few exceptions.. I dont have a food mill nor a Cuisinart, so I shocked the tomatoes to peel them before chopping, and when the cooking was done I mixed the soup in a blender. It turned out great!

First time I made it exactly as directed.Good, but wow!Was it spicy! Next time I cut the pepper to 1/2 t. Just right for my taste. Easy to make & a good way to use up the last of the garden tomatoes. Made grilled cheese sandwiches with garlic cheddar cheese to go with. Excellant pairing! My kids hate tomato soup, but they changed their minds after eating this tomato soup.

This is wonderful. I found that is was even tastier a few days laters. We already bought the next batch of tomatos to make it again. Great for the fall!

Loved this soup! Followed the recipe exactly, including using the food mill. I liked how the food mill weeded out the tomato peel and excess onion peel. However, I found the process of putting it through the mill a bit labor intensive (I think my mill is smaller than Ina's, so that could be why. Next time, I might just peel and seed the tomatoes before cooking them and put the whole thing in the blender. My bf preferred the texture the second day, after we put it in the blender and smoothed it out, anyway! I don't mind a chunkier soup, though. Also, I might add a little less carrot next time because I could specifically taste it and felt it competed a little with the tomatoes. That being said, I will 100% make this again. Thanks Ina! Served it with baked grilled cheese made with fresh sourdough bread, Dubliner cheddar, and prosciutto! Yum.

This is a fantastic soup! I prepared it as written, for the most part (without basil and heavy cream. I used the medium disc on my food mill for great texture. This will be my goto soup recipe!

This recipe is pretty good, but a bit time consuming compared to some other recipes I've tried. I left the cream out so I could eat it every day, and the flavors were still nice. My favorite is still Tyler Florence's Roasted Tomato Soup - much less chopping, hands-on cooking, etc., and I think the flavors are more developed and sophisticated. I leave the cream and butter out of that one too, and it's delicious!
