I had never had fennel before but my husband loves pear so I figured why not. Turns out I don't like fennel.

I just happened to have fennel, star anise, and pears on hand. Quite refreshing. I think next time I would add Valdosta pecans as an added garnish.

I'm always trying new recipes on unsuspecting dinner guests. We were all skeptical this would have a heavy licorice taste. The flavors blended beautifully. As a bonus, my pears were very ripe and added a creamy texture to complement the crispness of the fennel.
