I followed this recipe to a tee and wasn't happy with the results. It was a VERY soupy gumbo. No one wanted seconds.

I made this tonight and we absolutely loved it! I didn't make the Shrimp stock but I used store bought Seafood stock instead and it was still wonderful. I bought fresh raw shrimp and put that in for only about 7 or 8 minutes at the very end and they turned out perfect. I served it with rice and some Jalapeno cornbread. Yummy Dinner, Thanks a bunch Paula & Uncle Bubba!

The gumbo tasted excellent but either I got a bad batch of shrimp or the recipe is wrong. After cooking the shrimp for 1 hour, the shrimp were mushy, well over cooked. The shrimp should have been cooked for 10-15 minutes, not 1 hour.

This recipe is awesome! All the flavors worked well together. The sausage really added some good spice. I added extra okra. It was just the right consistency (not too watery and not too thick. It tasted like restaraunt quality.

Somebody asked what is smoked sausage and literally it is sausage usually made out of ground pork and beef and fat with spices that goes into a smoked until it is cooked. The best smoked sausage for a gumbo is andouille because it has a bit of spiciness to it. I used it and this is a pretty good recipe. I omitted the okra and used gumbo file instead. They both are thickeners and my family does not like okra.
For the person who asked where do you get shrimp stock. You make it by using shrimp shells and heads if available and let that simmer for about 30 minutes or so.

Very tasty! I've made this gumbo twice and I think it gets better each time. I use a bit more veg and sausage than the recipe calls for, but that's just a preference for my family. Great flavors. Def a "go-to" recipe.

What is smoked sausage? I am not sure what to look for at the market. (especial when I have my husband go for me.I gave it a 5 star as a recipe with ingredients that would be in most Kitchens and not costly.
